Hi

Gave the 2 y.o victa 2 stroke a minor service as i have done successfuly many times before.
changed
fuel filter, air filter, plug (cj8), o ring in carby, pre filter in snorkel.

cleaned out -
fuel tank and fuel lines - let dry,
chassis,

new fresh fuel in ---

ran ok before - wont start now

*tested spark outside chamber - can see plenty.
* has compression tested with thumb over hole
* fuel is getting in - i know cause eventually it floods and plug has fuel on it.

so i have fuel and spark but it wont kick over .. ideas ?
thx

gregc,
If it is a plastic carby you have more than likly put the needle in the wrong way or the air filter is in upside down.

thanks for the diagram - it is the same one from my service manual - good info.

the air filter is in correctly - checked.
needle in point end first - checked.

very unusual.
it did stop working only after i touched it and replaced fuel filter, plug-cj8, air filter, cleaned carby

it does give a spark against chassis.
fuel seems to be getting to the spark plug.
weird

anything else it may be ?

thanks

Double check the spark plug gap Greg. I bought one once and it was way too wide. I put it in straight out of the box not thinking about the gap and I had the same problem. Once I'd re gapped it, it started no worries.

will check thanks for that - i took the muffler off and noticed it was full with gunk from overrich mowing. dont know if this would hinder starting. do you need a special tool to check gaps ?

gregc,
If you clean out the exhaust port of all the built up carbon and then start the machine I am sure that it will run. Then I would look at replacing the muffler.

Its always handy to have a 'Gapping tool' in your tool box Greg. One has about 10 different thickness 'blades' all stamped with gap sizes. They prob only cos a few $! I *ahem* 'Borrowed' one from work a few years ago

Now I checked this 100 times -
No spark -
t ested the spark with the plug against the lower part of the chassis and got spark

mower repair guy tested it against the outside of the chamber and got no spark -

go figure -
