I do have a question with this one.The fins on this are larger and further apart from a normal power torque. Why? Also there is no decompression valve. The head has no hole at all for it.Dose anybody know why?

And they did release a few without the decompression valve, just to cut costs on the budget model.

However, it does remove the decompression valve as something to go wrong, and the ones without it can be really gutsy little ones, so i tend to scrap the cheap Chinese ones, and keep the heads for other ones.

I actually kept a chinese one for my mowing runs this year, I generally kill a old macgine every season doing 3-4 lawns a week in extreme heat, odd angles and mowing over months of growth. I will see how it tolereates it, my powertorqe from last year was an australian unit, ran perfect after a service and I sold it.

OK cool thanks guys I thought that was the case,I just need to read it from somebody else.Just to make sure.So are they better engines or worse that the normal everyday power-torque?

If you get a good one I find they are great, a lot suffered from premature failure of conrods and such. This is my opinion, most people despise of the chinese motors though.

I didn't realize there was such a viable different's,but I could see the different's even before it went into the trailer. So if your happy with that one.I could make that one of them for our deal.As I know I won't be needing that one.

the old utility has me a little stumped, I think it must be a home-job.

I cant think of any model with that base, a plastic carby, a front mount tank, and an impulse starter!

Well yes there in this type, but I'm not sure it had the same carby as this one. Also I couldn't work out either about the impulse starter gear on it either. So although that picture is how it would have started live I agree something has changed.

The one in that picture looks to have a G3 carby, and clearly has a Zip starter, also, it has a one-peice dress & cooling cowl, whitch does not have a black cooling cowl under it.

The black cowl on yours would suggest a plastic cowl on top, like a vc sports, but i cant think of any combination of these parts that involves an impulse starter.

Perhaps somebody has put that on it.I was thinking it have been more of a VC-Mustang motor. One where somebody has put the impulse starter cup on it.

The black cowl & G4 carby match this utility:

However the base is from the one you have added just above!

As for the starter, I cant recall any utility that was released with an impulse starter, and I cant find one in any of my files either!

1275312533 the head on it looks exactly like a VC-160 Mark II & III head.Doesn't have the casting of the later VC-Mustang heads.

1975 Engine, I'm pretty sure that base was gone by 75, and the impulse starter certainly was not in use, I have a feeling that the G4 on this should have a primer-less grey face traditionally, but then again, this mower is anything but original.

Yes well that's true to.There was no carby with it,and certainly no primer on it either. It almost looks like somebody started converting it and then gave up.It even has the bracket on the right hand side to hang the tank off.I'd say the conversion was never completed.Probably didn't know where to put the tank,to start with.

you may be right, the cowl suite the engine date though, so I imagine this engine was original to the cowl and tank, as well as the carby.

I'm guessing, maybe, this base made it into the 75 production run, and originally looked abit likt the white one above, but with this base.

Then at some point, the starter has busted, and the owner has made modifications to fit an impulse starter, either becase they hafd one spoare, or prefer them.

Then eithter when they chucked it, or in the lead up, it was stripped for parts.

I imagine the alterations needed to the mower to fit an impulse to this would be to do away with the cowl, and use a peice of tin from the front starter mounts, to secure the top of the tank.

I don't know, but I do think this motor has come from another mower. As why would you have the tank hanging from the right hand side.As when these where made the tanks were on the front and supported by the cowl.So I would say this motor was from some kind of VC,not sure what model.I guess the project was stopped due to problems involving, like where does the tank go now?I guess there thought was what cowl,we won't have one now.

That cowl also acepts front mounts, hence the two slots in the front of the cowl.

If you take that bracke resting near the wheel, it should fit into one of the slots in the front, there would have been 2 brackets.
