Trudging through what seems to be an old commercial dumping ground, just near the Molongolo, in Canberra, i came across 5 old Scott Bonnar Cylinder Mowers.

They are quite large (I would say just over 1m cuting width each) and I'm guessing used to be attached to the front of some form of vehicle.

I'm thinking i might try and winch one out one day!

Wow, old hang mowers, somone on here was working on one a while back, not sure how they went with it.

Do you have any idea what these would have been off?

At least one of them seemed to be unseized, so i am starting to get pretty keen on grabbing one!

If i get one going, I could pop it on my car (Do you think this would out of place on a Honda?)

They seem to be gang mowers, similar to the Scott Bonnar Eagle. You might take a look at this recent thread:

Hi Ty, what you have spied I believe to be a Scott Bonnar Model 14 Gang mower. There is a SB Gang mower parts list and maintenance manual in the Lawnmower Parts Lists and Manuals topic. these mowers were originally hooked behind a horse; later tractors for mowing parks, golf fairways, ovals etc. Some are still used today.

grab them the worst case scenario is they make great garden ornaments

If nothing else the reels have heaps of meat left on them , surely with a few bearings and a little tlc they would work well again.

I'll have to get the trailer down there when i can, I'll let you know how I go!

This is in the area behind Fyshwick, yes.

I had a good look right around there the other day, took a fair amound of trying not to get caught in the blackberry bushes.

No mowers out there apart from these ones, however, i have noticed a few sites there that seem, prone to illegal dumping, so i will keep an eye on them, I have picked up a few good mowers from Illegal dumps.

you should be there picking them up now its dark time no need for sneaking around night time is when i drive around looking for things and picking things up i spot during the day.

Cant do it at night, The area is to tricky to navigate, plus, I live 120km from these mowers, so I need to have another excuse.

Thankfully the area is dead quiet on a weekend, its an industrial area, void of homes!

Hi Ty, in reference to navigating round the blackberry bushes, they are a favourite haunt for Joe Blakes sunning themselves especially in winter....Tread carefully my friend.

Haven't had that problem Deejay, my snakes seemed to like beaten paths and grass. What I did find though, is when you beat your way through 5-6 foot high heavy blackberries with a huge load of spray gear on your back, from time to time you step in a foxhole. Instant drop of nearly 3 feet, landing in the hurdle position. Getting out is something of a trick with all that burden on your back, a faceful of blackberries, and a spray wand in your hand, plus there's nothing to grab hold of that won't drive thorns right through your leather gloves, and if you lean forward you get a few litres of Garlon down your back. Ah, the good old days. I'm sure I'll miss them one day.
