Thats a good point Joe, I compleatly forgot about that, and its likely that Goliath has the wrong jet (Considering the LM was well after the Twin.
The corect jet for a 170cc Victa Twin is Part No. CRO03459A
This is a G4 Jet & Tube Assembly, and is identified by the chamfer on the edge of the screw head.
I beleive the 125cc Jet has a ring cut into the face of the screw head, and the 85cc has either a ring on the outer edge, or a ring on the face and a chamfered edge.
Also, the lower spring (the small one) is different, for the 170cc its identified as 1.06" long, and has 5 1/2 Turns.
I will see if i can find any of these parts floating around.
The 85cc lower spring is 9/16" and does 2 turns.

Are the needles the same or are they different colours? As I noticed when I was trying to rebuild these carby's they seem to have different coloured needles. Is this right or am I looking at the wrong thing? If I'm on the right track what colour needle would I need? Also the jets that have been talked about I'm guessing that they are the little brass fitting where the needle sits?I hope I'm getting this right.[Censored] I need some workshop manuals.

The Jets we have been discussing are the screws that hold the plate on, i put pics of them on one of the other pages. For your mower, it should have a G4 carby, Not an LM, as the Main Jet (the big brass screw) for the 170cc engine, was only ever made for the G4 Carby. Here is a picture of a G4 Jet ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-5013-1600-full_5013_1527_g4.png) and here is a diagram of the 170cc screw head (side on) and the normal one. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-5013-1601-screwhead.png) You want the first one, with the chamfer. Looking at the pictures of goliath you have posted, the new carby you have on there has a 160cc jet, however the one it came with has the corect jet, looking at the pictures on page to, with the jet and float on top of the mower. As for the needle, i beleive either is fine.
Cheers Ty

Ok I will have a fish around, but I am 99.95% sure that the only G4 carby I have is the one that came on the twin.I guess that leaves up that creek with no paddle, as that carby wouldn't even let me start it.You know over the years with all the mowers I either wreck or thrown out and yet I don't have a G4's only LM's.It gives me the pips.

I would suggest this: Grab goliaths old carby, pull it fully apart, and gather the following parts from it: -The Body -The Main Jet & Tube -The Throttle Slider (The larger grey thing from inside) -The 2 springs Now, carfully clean these, paying close attention to the Jet and tube Take of goliaths new carby, fully, and pull it apart. Now, take the G4 body, and fit it to the air hose securely, with the throttle cable locked into its notch. Slide the control on the handle bars up and down, and make sure it is going in and out inside the body of the carby. Now, take the throttle slider from the G4 pile, and fit it into the body, making sure the ball at the end of the throttle cable locks into the hole in the throttle slider. after this, place the lifter (the circle with 3 arms) over the top of the throttle slider, making sure the arms are in the 3 matching slots on the inside wall of the carby body. Now turn it over, holding everything in place with your hands, so that you are looking into the hole that goes on the engine. Take the poppet valve (looks like a car port valve, but plastic) and put it through the little hole in the middle of the carby body, so that the pointy end would be pointing away from the engine mount. After this, turn it back over, and make sure the poppet vlave stays in place. Put the small spring (from G4) ontop of the lifter, then the diaphram, fit it flat side up, and push the poppet valve point through the diaphram centre. Then fir the locking clip form the G4 (It may be a little clip, that fits under the edge of the poppet arrow head, to lock the diaphram in, or it may be a bigger plate. Now put the large spring over (the one from the G4) and clip on the good end cap. Now fit the float components at the side, making sure to use the original G4 jet screw and tube. The instructions for the cut out are Here.
Cheers Ty

So am I using the G4 body or the LM body? I guess I don't have much choice there as when I was removing the G4 from Goliath it didn't want to give it up so easy.So when I was removing the air line for the Decompression vales that part broke of the carby.I didn't get it out of the hose in any usable condition. So I hope you mean use LM as I have no G4 body's at all.

No, you need the G4 body, because you need the 170cc jet, witch will only fit a G4 body.
I'll see if i cant dig one up here for you.

If the nagambie has a good coil, and Goliath does too, would you be interested in parting with the extra coil for my Twin?
Also, i just checked and i have a G4 for you, you will just need Goliath's jet and spring.
And in a stroke of luck, i noticed that one of the G4's i pulled of a VC-160 (Not supposed to be there in the first place) had the chamfer on the jet, so i whipped it out and measured it, and yep, 170cc jet!

Let me think about the coil, that was one of the reasons for getting it,but I will think about it.Thanks for looking for the carby as I had no idea what to do about that.I wouldn't be surprised if the carby Goliath had would even have the right jet. Also was chatting to a friend of mine in Queensland and he said that I should have 2 wires for the kill switch, but Goliath doesn't.So where should the wire come from? Do you have a wire I can use for Goliath?

Dont quote me, ive had nothing to do with the electricals on the twin. If its only got one stop wire it should have a second. That goes through as the cross pin and the other end will earth to the engine. The series 70 MKIII's (points ignition) are set up like this. Earth to the engine = an eyelet that one of the cover bolts goes through.

It's often the way with these mowers, as parts are becoming harde to get, but at least in your case you have found one that is in poor shape, its a good donor.

That's why I don't have any problems wrecking it.At the end I know I will hopefully have one decent mower out of the two of them.Although I'm having problems communicating with the seller.Won't reply back to me.So I can't arrange a pick-up time and date.Getting worried now.
