hi guys,

i have a 4 blade disc that came from a statesman [powertorque model] with catcher and would like to fit it to this side thrower mower.

[Linked Image]

just not sure what blades to use, should i use the side chute curved type blades that are on the original disc for this mower, or the standard blades that are already on the 4 blade disc.

does it really matter will it make any real difference?

Cheers, Emmo

Use the utility blades.

Should be the ones for the power torque. The shorter ones.

You do not need the lift so there is no point using the catcher type blades, it could actually work worse as its throwing the grass up and mushing it on the underside of the deck rather than throwing or sweeping it out the side.

The 4 blade disc is designed to help create lift.

Two blades is fine. Keep good blades on it and the only difference i think you will find with the 4 blade disk will be it will cost you twice as much to replace the blades when its time to change them.

3000rpm divided by 60 times 2 is a lot of chopping. Up to you if you want to times it by 4 instead.

thank you Rodeobob

So really it would have no benefit and might create problems with the side discharge.

i think ill keep the standard disc on there and keep the 4 blade disc for another mower.

4 blades probably would help it.

Thing is what sort of grass are you cutting??

If its reasonable length and goes in under the front of the mower OK whats on it will do the job. An extra 2 blades would probably help.

If its real long nasty stuff i doubt that the extra 2 blades would make any difference.

If it were a catcher mower i would say go with it. A 2 blade victa with a 5hp quantum on it even struggles to throw wet grass into the catcher. 4 blades helps. Not that you are meant to mow long nasty wet grass and expect a full catcher and lawn like appearance after you are finished.

Im actually wondering if the 4 blade disc will clear the handle bolts (if they are nut down) on a full crank ute base. The regular PT dics doesnt.

Bob.
