I'm Rob from Swindon, England, and I've joined this forum because Ive just bought a non running Victa Vulcan Lawnmower. Previously, I had never heard of Victa mowers, but, having done some reading, I gather they are the Porsche equivalent of the lawnmower world! Hopefully, I can get this one going relatively cheaply so any advice or tips would be gratefully received. Ihave noticd already, that there is not a lot of info about the Vulcan out there!!

Rob, welcome to Outdoorking. Victa has used a lot of model names for its mowers over the years, and I think most of us do not identify them by that name in most cases unless they are of an unusual, specific type. Can you tell us something about the mower, please: type of engine (it's probably either a Victa 2 stroke or a Briggs and Stratton 4 stroke, but then there are details after that), width of cut, whether it uses a grass catcher, and whether it is self-propelled or you push it manually. A lot of this can be encapsulated in a picture: if you can post one or more, we'll be a lot closer to all being on the same page.

Because your Victa doesn't run, I'm guessing you are mostly interested in the engine, so please focus on that. If it is a 4 stroke it will probably have a Briggs and Stratton identification on it, and that will probably have a number that asserts its power or torque output. Somewhere on a B&S engine it also has a long string of numbers that tells us everything about it including the assembly operator's shoe size (well, almost). There is also a small risk that you have been unlucky enough to get a Tecumseh 4 stroke engine. If it is a 2 stroke it will have been made by Victa themselves, and depending on age will either be a full-crank type or a cantilevered crank type known as "PowerTorque". If you can give us some details along those lines, we can get a dialogue underway.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Grumpy, and the help and advice. I've had a quick look at the mower since my last post(been away on holiday!)and it's definately a 2-stroke power torque engine and is self propelled. It also appears to have some carby parts missing!I'm planning to have a more in depth look over the next couple of days and will post a photo asap.

Rob, if it is a PowerTorque it may have this carburetor:

I believe that carburetor is black plastic and is known as G4. I have a personal phobia about them, but if you can compare yours with that one, and consult that diagram & parts list, you may at least be able to see what is missing. When it comes to making it work, I'm sure one of our forum members who does not have my weak stomach for those carburetors will be able to help you. You most likely will need help: they are no picnic to work on, compared with other carburetors.

Hi rw4948, and a warm welcome to the forum. Joe Carroll is our resident Victa guru and well versed on the idiosyncrasies of the G4 Victa carby, and will hopefully jump in here to give advice. wink
To enable your questions to form a helpful archive for future members, could you please post any further questions in the "Questions on Victa 2 Stroke Engines" on the main forum list.
Many thanks and once again, :welcome:
cheers2

Hi Grumpy, thanks again, attached are some photos of the mower. It is a g4 carburetor with the primer cap, needle, float and main jet missing. I have sourced some 2nd hand parts and put them on but as yet can't get it running.

I will definately post on the power torque forum for further advice.
