I wonder if somebody can enlighten me on the following problem? I was given a Victa V35 (160cc PowerTorque engine, probably late '80's, with module ignition) by a relo because "it doesn't go' and I needed an unrusted baseplate for my Victa.I got this motor going and ran it for about 30 seconds (had to turn it off before it asphyxiated me in the workshop), but on a subsequent retry found that the leading pole of the magnet was now physically fouling the leading leg of the C core (definitely wasn't like this before it first ran). I reset the C core so there was just clearance to the magnet (which by eye was how it had been before) and found that now I had vicious kickback when trying to start it. I reset the magnet-to-C core gap using a pair of 10 thou brass shims so that they are a snug sliding fit, but it still kicks- hard enough that as the cord was ripped out of my hand back into the pulley it almost broke my left thumb as the cord handle cracked across it. Flicking the flywheel so that the magnet passes the coil with the plug out and grounded, it appears to fire roughly when (or slightly before) the trailing magnet pole is opposite the trailing leg of the C core in the direction of rotation. At this point, the piston is about a half inch before TDC. Given that the old breaker point jobs were set to an eighth before TDC this seems extreme. Roughly observing how far the flywheel circumference travels from the approximate sparking point to TDC, firing seems to be at 35-40 degrees before TDC.As the timing on these is fixed and non-negotiable, does anybody know what gives?

Voldik,
Your problem is simple when you took off the blade plate that is your balance for the timing also if the blade plate is loose that will cause the same problem. Replace the blade plate and your problem will be gone or you have damaged the flywheel. If you have any further information just e-mail through the contact details on this site.

Bruce
