hi gents ,
anyone out there had anything to do with these ive had one for a few years now, & it gives a good result, my problem is that i use the original blade[ 9 inch dia with slotted perimeter] it seems to wear rapidly & as a consequence it loses depth. Q. no. 1 would a straIGHT blade give me a longer run for my money Q NO.2. i happened to see a larger blade 10 inch to suit a victa it has a five eigth hole but i could bush it. looks like the guard would accept it .any thoughts out there ? i would value your advice ,
ozziejohn.

i may have retired but i havent stopped yet, ive got one shed full of woodworking machines & hand tools(my other love, makin sawdust)my othr shed is mechanics tool chests stick &mig welders metal lathe 9 inch swing screw cutting so if icant buy it i make it,i hope im writing this in the right place, thats all i can think of at the moment, cheers & beers

Wear on edging blades is an annoyance we all try to cope with. Generally, increasing the amount of steel that has to be worn away, increases the life of the blade. So, a straight blade would probably not last nearly as long as a disk. A larger diameter disk has a longer perimeter and more steel, so it theoretically should last longer so long as you have enough height adjustment range to cope with it. I'm not very comfortable with bushing the center though - if a disk-type blade comes off at full speed, it could easily hurt people very seriously. That is the downside of disks versus strip blades, and larger blades in general: they contain more kinetic energy and therefore have more potential to cause harm.

Good point drjbeam, I should have moved it before I replied. I've done it now, and it was a first for me - I'm reluctant to intervene in threads.

Hi Grumpy, I definitely agree with your advice there mate, I have a full crank Victa Tilt-A-Cut that came initially with a straight blade but wore out quite quickly, I replaced it with a disc blade (Bynorm after-market) and it is still in good condition and cutting a perfect edge...it also tends to pull the machine along as it cuts its groove!! grin
cheers2
