I picked up a 24" Victa slasher from a friend who now has 3 of them in his shed. The one I got has a full crank, points ignition, 160 with a G3 carb, on the cowling it says "Extra power 160" but I've pulled the engine apart and as far as I can tell there is no difference at all between that and a normal Victa. So what does give it the "extra power"? I always assumed the bigger ones had a high compression head? The only difference I can tell is that it had an air box with 2 air filters.
So anyone know where this supposed extra power comes from? Is it in the porting?
Thanks
Hayden

Its in the posative thinking I dont think they need extra power, well if the blades are bent up and you are trying to cut too sort (like lawn height) they do. Bob.

I would be interested to know what is the dyno output of a full crank 160, as Victa never quoted HP figures for their engines but on specs ie 3 bearings, forged steel crank, quite large porting it was either designed to cope with some serious abuse or alternatively with the right carb and muffler setup some serious power output for their size. As to the famed Suzuki in my view is a just a substitute for a full crank 125. If I had a choice between a brand new Suzuki or a mower with a Full Crank 125 I think the 125 would get the gong due to its cast iron bore and 3 bearing set up.

I used a torque curve from an advertisement for a the "power unit" Victas to figure that a 160 has 3.41HP (the 125 was 2.6 I think), my 125 power unit has a carby that only opens half way, a plate about 8mm thick between the head and cylinder to lower the compression and a much more restrictive (quieter) exhaust so surely a normal one would have much more power? Who knows. Does anyone have the torque curve for a "normal" 160? Thanks Hayden

That 125 sounds like it came off an Imperial. Having used mowers with a 3.5 hp B&S ad a 160 full cranker with both a G3 and an LM carbie I would say that the 160 feels more powerful Perhaps the relatively low HP figure is due to the restrictive muffler set up.

It sure did! To me, Briggs always feel less powerful until you get to the 6.5HP model, which feels about the same as a Victa to me, I think Briggs don't much in the way of low end torque. On a go kart a Victa feels more powerful than a 5HP Briggs too. Anyone got that torque curve? Thanks Hayden

The torqe is more because the Victa fires a power stroke twice as often.
I thought the V35 was 3.5 and the V40 was 4hp. Then the V50 off the self propelled and slashers but im not sure how they get the 5hp out of what is esentially the same engine, perhaps the striaght inlet is the key.
I like the older full cranks. They seem to have a good solid power about them.
Bob.
