Hi Shedpest, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's always great to have another Scotty owner aboard, as we all love to learn new things and tinker here. wink

You have there a Scott Bonnar Model 40 Electric, which would be a single phase 240V 50Hz motor; it should state the horsepower somewhere on the motor data plate. Your post does not give us the cutting width, but I would presume it is a 14" cut, in which case it was known as a "terrace mower". The Model 40 (Electric and Petrol) were first produced in 1960.

Have a search of the Scott Bonnar topic in "Lawnmower Frames" in the main forum area, you will find some interesting info there. wink

Thanks for the info Deejay (even if I put it in the wrong thread)
Yes it is a 14in as you presumed.
I have stripped it down and am waiting for the cylinder to be sharpened and a new bed blade.
I was told there was not a lot of blade on the reel, so adjustment might be an issue,can you pack the bed-knife blade down to get more adjustment?

In regards to your query; No mate, you can't pack the bedknife to get adjustment, the bedknife is fixed with special screws to the soleplate, which in turn is attached by bolts to the mower frame, so it is the cylinder reel that adjusts up or down to it....in fact the reel does not contact the bedknife at all; there is a minute clearance between the two, however it will cut paper all along its length when correctly set up.

This is a little tricky to do at first, but you will succeed providing the reel bearings are not worn and are running true. wink
