Referring back to the original thread ( https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=18082#Post18082), i have decided to keep the high arch and gear start mower. the high arch suffered some major pitting so she was dismantled, base, cowling etc sandblasted and the rest given a general cleanover. She was then repainted in the closest -to-original colour i could find (hammertone colours are a pain to try and match). here are the resulting pics.. ![[Linked Image from img844.imageshack.us]](http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/4010/80247118.jpg)

out of the 150+ machines I have had over the years I have never had one of those cowlings.
I do have a lot of "odd" spares though.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but i recently received one of these in a bulk lot, I'll have another look at it tonight, but its cowl by memory is in pretty good shape, the base is marked mayfair.
From what i can work out in the parts listing books, and from what i know of its history, i belevie it to be a 1978 Mayfaire Deluxe High Arch V190, I'll put a few pics up soon.
Cheers Ty

Ive got one. One of the first mowers i got. Found it at my uncles house, put the motor off it on the super24 and put a side pull on it off a rusty base i got later on. Made up a side throw chute and sent it home with my mate. He used it for the spring as a 'stick smasher' mowing around and under his trees where the ride on couldnt get too. He said it ran awesome, 4 strokes like a pig under no load but once you stick it into it it just grunts on like nothing else. I had a catcher here so i got him to bring it back along with his 23" MTD, pulled the 3.75 off that and put a 5HP on it. Ive since spied the catcher for it up on a shelf in my uncles shed. Need to claim that. Its now the teaser mower, 'its the same price as the rest but yeah you can make an offer on that one buddy and i will think about it'. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-4181-1325-covers_001.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-4181-1326-covers_002.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-4181-1327-covers_003.jpg) Base is worn through on the rhs just behind the front wheel, can see it just infront of the shadow. Id say its done a bit of work. I dont remember the front edge being broken when i sent it off with my mate.

I have noticed yours is a mayfair Mr Davis, mine was a PACE so maybe the cowl was limited to these re badged victa high archs?
in any case, i ran the mower the other day (have not run it since right after the resto) and man does this thing have some guts! sounds soo smooth (smoothness only beaten by the twin) and theres so much power that the rear catcher gets blown out by the blades turning (im sure i dont have an air leak either so i dont think its over revving). should i be worried or does this sound about right? (i might be able to take a video of it running and post it up).

or does the "deluxe super power" have anything to do with it? (was it maybe a modified engine being sold by pace or something along these lines???)

It may be using the Hi-Compression head, if you put up a video maybe we can work out if its doing what it should.
