Hi there.

I got given a Husky 35 VR Husqvarna Chainsaw.

A little light model, perfect for small trees.

My brother bought it as a forestry work - and it's seen a lot of action.

I used it 2 times since been given it - and the second time the chain came off.

Found out the tensioning bolt that holds the bar out was stripped - and it works loose - thus removing all tension on the chain.

How the heck would I go about getting this repaired?

And second question - is it worth it??

I reckon so. smile

i have a very old homelite saw that belonged to my grandfather some time ago and he got pissed with the automatic tensioner and pulled it out. the only problem with that is that its quite a process to tension the chain. is it possible to substitute the bolt? maybe its only a few $ part at the right shop? if its the regular type of system that you loosen the bolts that clamp the bar down then you can easily remove the the tensioner and stick the bar in a vice while pulling the saw away to tension it. if its one of the fan dangled contraptions thats totally different like the still system it may be a different prospect.
can you post some pics so we can see whats going on.

OK here are some images

[Linked Image from lh5.ggpht.com]

and the bolt I am talking about is not the tensioning screws, it is the bolt that holds the bar in place once it has been nipped up by the tensioning screws.

And just to show off the other parts

I suspect this part was added later

as the original off switch is gone walkabout.

So the issue here is the bolt that holds the bar in place. I suspect i could replace it with another bolt and be OK - the thread where the nut screws on is stripped bare.

So the bar won't stay tight, and the chain falls off..

Hiya Punks. I finally had the guts & the time to dismantle this thing.

Today was mechanicing day!!

Unfortunately you have to take the whole $#@(* thing apart down to nuts and bolts to get this one stripped bolt out!

See here:

Ah well. I now have a bucket-o-chainsaw - and I will try to get a new plastic starter rotor for it.

Made in Canada - every piece branded proudly.

The thing is really beautiful to dismantle - not much plastic in it at all. Very cool machine.

The plastic piece that was stuffed was the starter pulley - often these get fragged out in all small engines.

I did wash a cricket ball sized lump of sawdust off the machine with my 'dirty parts wash petrol' today. Yuk.

Catch ya later - will post progress on how to buy the parts.

Update; Rang Zillmere Mowers. They had trouble tracking down the parts.

The part For the sprocket from Husqvarna themselves is 507101072

Found a part in the usa.
http://www.hyperparts.com/wc.dll?ctwp~getxref~1001~1003~1~probrand~1~Poulan~507101072

they don't ship outside the US. So will try to ship to a mate in the US and get it sent on from there.

Hi alwayscurious, great to see you have got the part tracked down, did you get the bolt you needed for the same supplier?
Best wishes to get it going, it looks like a strong little saw, would make a great restoration as a classic 80's saw! grin

HI there - I got the part ordered. No I never tracked down the bolt. I will grind off a normal 6mm bolt and put some nylon nuts on it to ensure it doesn't slip.

Haven't received the part - but then I only just ordered it then!

Have been working on other projects.
