Hey guys, i saw this mower in the classifieds so decided to grab it. All that was needed was a new carby primer section to get it running. Checked the flywheel and pistons before i bought it and both are in great nick. Now, a question, for most part the engine runs fine but now and then i might get an intermittent backfiring and a puff of smoke (this might happen every 3-4 seconds), would anyone have a clue as to what this may be, or is this part of the Twin normal running procedure? (note, i have not really replaced the spark plugs/ reconditioned the carby but i will eventually get there just in case you guys think this might be the cause of the problem). also, what kind of catcher am i looking for here as the mower has come without one.

Hi Johno, and on a good score there mate. It looks in very good nick. You may find that Joe Carroll will advise you on a suitable catcher.

I have one catcher here for mine, they are oretty big for the size of the mower, I do belive however a catcher from a self proppeled silver streak may fit... I can confirm this later.

no such luck with the catcher, seems like a twin catcher is only used on a twin.
As with the backfiring I would begin with fully cleaning the carb out, as I have had a few with water in them give the sames symptoms.

sorry for digging up an old tread, but, out of interest, would the victa powerplus catcher also fit the twin? (i have spotted a catcher in really good condition but im not sure if its a powerplus or twin/supreme catcher)
PS: i thought the twins came in 2 colours, red and green and had the indicator for full catcher, but im not sure of the supreme mowers.

I have a twin catcher, its attached to my twin. At a auction a while ago I was watchign pallets of "junk" but had to leave, one of the pallets had a brand new catcher on it for a twin. Every pallet (there were 100's) went from $1-20 each. SPEWIN!

I saw the pictures of the one on here some time back, is that the one you got?
If so, yep, its identical, and should fit any victa with a thumb release catcher, even the twin, but also, Mustang, Vortex, Silver Streak, etc..
I love these chutes, they came standard with some models back in the early 70's, and have been optional since, i live in an area where rocks are a substantial issue when mowing, but the grass is too thick and heavy to be bothered with catching, so i have a chute for every mower i can find one for (which is 3 right now, this, one, a VC-160, and a sapare VC-160 chute i edited to fit my auto drive.)
Cheers Ty

Id dearly love one for a later model alloy base high arch with the thumb release.
Ive got a couple of low arch ones here, on is on my Corvette, the other im not sure but i think its the same, for the low arch with the 3/4 width door.

I see them around every now and then, if i do spot another one someday, I'll let you know as it is something that can be mailed.
Its really a matter of luck though, i find them at the usual places, tips, scrappers or with donations, so maybe one will turn up at your end one day!
Cheers Ty
