Just got a used Coleman powermate 4000 generator. 8 HP B&S engine. May have been sitting for about a year... Starts like a champ. Here's the question: Muffler gets cherry red hot after about a minute of running. Not familiar w/generators and don't know if this is something normal or if there is a cause. Thanks for any help
Evidently the engine is out of time, either someone has been into it and got the timing marks off or the flywheel key is sheared, take the flywheel off and check that first, simple and easy to do, if it's not sheared, then it's necessary to go in and check the timing marks on the crankshaft, see if it is lined up with gear.
