G'day Im Boffa,
Found this forum hunting for info on old Rover Ranchers (5-6 hp Briggs and Stratton types) after old faithfull spat and then shredded the drive belt for the cutting deck half way through the days work.
My stable includes a Victa 2 stroke monster Slasher/Mower, a white (MTD?) turf mower which is totally useless but has a nice lekky start 13 horse B&S, a late model Victa 2 stroke house mower and Old Faithful.
So the grass is growing its bum off down here and in the interests of fire safety and snake control im madly slashing 4 foot grass at the moment on my 7 acre block and my maintainence on the fly technique (When it breaks, fix it) has brought me here.
Im also inspired to do the right thing by the old Rover and give her a coat of paint and maybe transplant the donk from the White into her for ease of starting and a 3 fold grunt increase so im going to be picking your brains for help on all these things.
Some piccies shortly!
Boffa

Hi there and welcome to the forum, I used to have a rover ranger like that one, I think all thats left of it these days is the deck and th 8hp engine. They are a good mower, only dramas I have had with the ones I have worked on was the clutch disc wearing out.
we also turned one of those ride ons into a "range rover"
Those victas are also a great machine. The full crank motors last forever when properly cared for.

LMFAO! Sooooo what did you have to do to the clutch system to make it hold up to those diameter wheels? Anyway I see your "Range Rover" is impressive but mines bigger..... ![[Linked Image from i24.photobucket.com]](http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c35/tony66_au/Rangie/03122006687-1.jpg)

And my thanks go to Bruce for a grouse Site and taking the time to collate/create the PDF manuals and parts lists.
Best $15 Ive spent in ages!
A question for Joe (Keeper of the steroid fed Ranger)
What constituted a "well cared for" Engine?
I usually do oils at 30 hours, keep filters clean, Keep grass off the decks and from time to time gurney the crud off the bottom of the deck for kicks.
I do blades AND BOLTS every Spring and plugs as needed.
Have I missed anything important?

We did nothing with the clutch, we did fit however a 12hp motor onto the back, those quad bike wheels pretty much bolted on with a couple of small home made adapters.
I change my oil on all my machines between 15-20 hrs.
Apart from that, I wash mine to make it stay pretty, clean the air filter and re oil, a plug every now and then. Main issue is if she burns oil dont let it run out!

15 to 20 hours, Got it.
As for burning oil I think its still fairly tight in the bore, before the belt shredded Id given her a good 4 hours of work and I checked the oil this morning before fitting the belt and it needed nothing.
The only real issue with her is cold starting and i prime her with a squirt of RP7 so she blows a smidge of blue smoke but im assuming its more the RP7 burning off than anything else and im getting no carbon around the muffler outlet other than what I get from running unleaded fuel (I miss grey pipes lol).
I took a few pics this morning that im going to post in the resto thread shortly.
Cheers,
Boffa
