Hi guys, I half expect Darryl to jump on this one smile but on my scotty, the front roller is very floppy. By that I mean it's got a lot of play when the mower is tilted back and it's shaken.
Hmm, I attach a pic, lol.
Anyhow, my query is, is it a bush or a bearing that goes in there?

Thanks guys
Pete

Hi Peatert, lol you got me in one!!.....Geez, am I that predictable!! grin
Now on to your prob; no mate, there are no bearings or bushes in there if you have the black hard plastic end caps (which are on the later model Scotty's) but if you have the earlier model front roller they have a die cast metal end cap with
(if my memory serves me correctly) a brass bush inserted.
It would be best to undo the nut on the LH end of the roller shaft, withdraw it to the right and remove and inspect it for wear....the plastic end caps (if fitted to your model) can be knocked out of the roller tube, by carefully using the shaft and could be replaced if necessary.
The metal ended caps are rivetted in place (I think) wink
I would bet that your shaft is badly worn on each end, as mine was; possibly because I did not oil it sufficiently.
I have since bored a hole on an angle thru the end cap so the tip of the oil can can squirt oil to the inside and onto the shaft. wink
Hope this helps,
cheers2

Looking at the picture you put up I would be saying that the front roller has the plastic inserts which are available still I am sure. If you can't get them I am sure I have a couple in stock. cheers2

Hi Bruce, You may be right, but if the plastic end caps are worn, you can bet your life the shaft is worn where the end cap wears away at it. I had a guy weld over the worn area and then turned to the correct diameter. wink
