G'day all, I'm Xav, 16 and I love engines, Bikes, Cars and the like. Been looking at purchasing an old rotomo for ages now, and I finally bought one on Sunday. I got the mower along with a heap of spare parts, a spare engine, and an old fuel tin. Just here to share the build and seek advice or help. Attached is a photo of everything that i got. The mower i believe is a Special Engine and recoil on an earlier body. Just have to identify the carb. Cheers Xav
Hi Xav, welcome here, What you have there is a good example, looks in pretty good condition with a good aircleaner, wheels and pull starter. Looks like it could go straight to work as is
Hi NormK, Thanks for the warm welcome. I've been getting straight to work but struggling with spark. I plugged the spark plug into a different mower and it went no problems. There is current going through the spark wire (you can get a zap) but it doesnt want to spark. I've gapped it at 0.028". Any ideas? All i can think of is the magento needing more spin than i can provide while viewing the spark plug to create enough voltage to spark.
Hi Xav It can be a can of worms and if you don't have parts to mix and max so you can fault find it can be hard. My first starting point is a bit of starter fluid in the throat of the carby. If you get an attempt to start then you can say you have enough spark for it to run and it also tells you it most likely hasn't been straight fueled. Then you can assume that it is a carby problem so you can concentrate on that
