It seems I fell for the hype. I saw videos of people spraying a bit of this stuff on rusty parts, or soaking parts in it, and then literally wiping the rust away. Well I tried it and in my opinion, it doesn't work very well. The product is probably okay for light surface rust. I had a very rusty frame here and saturated it in the gel. Left in the shade the required time (2 hours they say, I left it 3) and washed it off. I gave it a wipe down with a cloth as a final wash down. The frame looks a bit cleaner but as for rust, the difference is minimal. I think that unless you are going to soak things in this stuff for weeks, you're not going to see much difference. I think I've had far better results using plain old vinegar and attacking the rust with a wire brush to be honest. According to the ingredients, the spray on Evapo-Rust is mainly just Phosphoric acid in a gel formula.

So I gave the rusty part a second dose of Evapo-Rust. I personally think it should have been marketed as a cleaner rather than a rust remover. It cleans up parts and brings out any existing paint without harming it. But it is very superficial at removing rust. I think you would need like a vat full of Evapo-Rust and soak parts in it for a very long period of time if you wanted it to remove rust. And with vinegar being far cheaper per gallon, why not just use vinegar?

I have used both evaporust and metal rescue and they have their benefits. Normally left them in for 24hrs heavier rust needed 2 or more treatments. The stuff is too expensive and loses its effectiveness, electrolysis is another good option and suited for heavier rust.

Edd China did a video once were he submerged a land rover chassis into evaporust mostly likely a sponsored video since the cost of the liquid would make you go bankrupt.
