Hi,
I have a problem with the cutting blades mounted on the blade bar crossing over and locking when the machine is running. The way the cutting blades are mounted are as follows:- the main bar is welded to the Hub with 6 'Threaded' holes (three on each side of the Hub) There is a second ''non fixed bar'' which fixes to the welded ''Blade bar'" by two bolts, the cutting blades with the two "correct" mounting spacers are mounted between the two Blade Bars and move freely. The problem is, in operation they sometimes cross over and meet at the top of the blades and jam together.
Is this the correct way to mount the blades, with two blade bars? If so how can I solve the problem.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks Stuart

Hi Stuart
I have an Alroh Imp as well. Never had that problem at least not yet.
I would try mounting the blades in one of the holes closer to the centre. Mine are near new and mounted on the second hole out from the centre, with the spacers both on the same side. If that does not work try closer to the end, or the spacers on alternate sides.
A lot of experienced helpful people on this site so someone may be able to give you the correct answer.
I am hoping while they are at it they can help me with mine. The entire cutter bar came off. It is a keyed shaft but for the life of me I cannot work out what holds it on. Inside the cutter bar there is a sleeve that is split the entire length making a keyway. I put it back together with a B&S key (wrong key I Know) gave it a few taps, worked for about a minute before it came off again, didn't harm the key.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks Byomarimba

Hi Stuart,

I'd bolt the 2 blades on so they don't move freely ,like a mower blade use a wave washer and see how that goes.

A wave washer between the flat washer will hold some tension on the blade.

Hi Byomarimba,

To lock the hub to the crank you would need grub screws to lock the hub to the shaft, if it's never had that it needs a bolt
in the end of the crank to hold the hub on, in your case you will need to weld a round thick washer to the end of the hub
and then tighten the bolt in the end of the crank.

If the crank has a step so the hub only goes on flush you would not need to weld the washer to the hub,

Also the last image these two parts should be locked together ,it could be welded on the other side but can't see in the image.

Cheers
Max.

Thanks Max,
I think I may have worked it out but didn't supply you with sufficient information to come to a similar conclusion. The split sleeve which is inside the cutter bar hub is threaded and there is a nut located inside the cutter bar. The sleeve was/is probably tapered (I do not have the eyesight or the tools to confirm this) so when you tighten the nut it clamps the cutter bar onto the drive shaft, and the cutter bar onto the sleeve. Only a guess and however it is meant to work it was probably not very successful as they went to grub screws in later models. I think the sleeve would also give you an additional clutch mechanism, (the housing is not keyed it is just the split in the sleeve), so I have opted against drilling and tapping a grub screw and gone for drilling through the cutter bar and putting a bolt in the end of the crankshaft. As I know I am a poor communicator so I hope the photos will make it clearer.
Again thanks for your help
Regards Randy

Yes that sounds about the best solution Randy just drill the flat bar and fit a bolt into the crank.
