Looking for details on this Scott Bonnar Nomad. I know it's a 2 stroke, but not sure of date of manufacture etc. Also it has a strange rectangular shaped bracket fitted to the handles above where the side discharge is. Some say it took a grass catcher, others say it is a side discharge utility. Looking for factual answers. Any help appreciated. Thank you all.

Hi MickyD ,

This SB is from around 1976 ,I know the earlier SB utilities from the sixties had a side catcher but your later SB in adverts
said it's for people who have heavy cutting conditions where collection of clippings is unimportant and there is no
mention of a side catcher ,someone may have fitted an earlier catcher to your mower.

Cheers
Max.

Hi Guys.
New member here so please forgive if I'm posting in the wrong thread!
Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on my new purchase.
Its a 17inch Scott bonnar 45
Would I be correct in thinking this is a 1973 model. Just from the serial number on the motor.
And is this one worth the effort of restoration.
Any info would be much appreciated.

FYI, Air filter is soaking atm, so its there!

Hi Geekayz,

Yes going by the engine number 1973.

Link below for Model History.

https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.a...94/re-model-45-history-record-c1968.html

This Scott Bonnar MODEL 45 looks to be in good condition to suit restoration.

It's worth restoring if you want to cut the grass with it .If you're restoring the mower to make profit then
I guess you would need to know the market for them in your area as in my area I've sold other makes
of reel mowers that were refurbished and only got $60. for them ,they were bought in a job lot of mowers
so didn't cost much and took a while to sell , and the only people here that were interested in
them were collectors or one guy that wanted the mower to cut a putting green at home. From memory I
gave away free working 2 stroke whipper snippers with the reel mowers. I've also seen similar Scott Bonnars
sell around here for $100 to $150.that need a little work.I've even seen a few people who put an old reel mower
in the middle of their front lawn as garden art.
There are a few wanted to buy Scott Bonnar 45 mowers on Gumtree for around $300.

Cheers
Max

Hi All,
New member here and new owner of a SB 17" mower. There is no seriel plate on the mower, is there anywhere else on it where the model.etc is etched on.

Would have of liked to have replaced the ID plate but guess there is no way too without its ID info.

Thanks

I've never seen anywhere else that the ID numbers are on these mowers.

You can buy a new ID plate on eBay and stamp it , 45 .The numbers just after 45 (058) in the image below I'd
say is for briggs & stratton motor so you would need to look for a tecumseh 4 stroke number off another mower plate,
then the last numbers maybe just how many made eg (0000001 to 2 million 140 thousand 3 hundred and 33 or 2140333) The last number just make up a number around the year your mower looks to be from by looking at
another plate.

Cheers
Max.
