I don't think I've ever cut grass when it's dark or in the rain but I did see a guy down my street do both with his ride on mower .

The Rover ride on my high school got in the late 1980s had a pair of round headlights. I always wanted a drive of it.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I have a slight oil leak from the selector shaft on one of the Y560's and I need to remove the shaft so I can replace the "O" ring. What I am not sure about is what or how the end of the shaft engages to for it to select the gears. Looking at the exploded drawing I can't see what it is connected to. The shaft moves in and out to select the gears. Anybody have any thoughts?

Hi Norm,

The selector just looks like it slides the locking hub up and down the gear shaft with dog teeth that engage either gear.

A strip down of the parts must be done to replace the o ring as far as I can see.

Once the halves are apart I assume it's straight forward.

Cheers
Max.

Thanks Max,
As I figured, hoped there would be an easier way. Now to see if I can find a gasket somewhere before I split the cases

I picked this one up today but it being a 10.5hp motor it is too hard to pull start. Runs fine when it does start.
I have an old 11hp electric start motor and I'm hoping that I can swap the bits across to turn this one into electric start. Anybody have any thoughts on if it will fit. I think it has the 2 bolts to bolt the starter on and the fuel tank has a cutout to fit around the starter.

Maybe Briggo should have offered wind up impulse starter for this, but that would look too old fashioned for their image wouldn't it?

Hi Norm and Mf,

Hard to pull start can be a sign of excessive valve clearance as the compression isn't released for starting ,obviously you
can't adjust the clearances on Top Dead Centre.

The 10.5 looks like a newer motor than the 11 hp motor , if there's no ring gear on the 10.5 the 11 flywheel should fit.

I don't think you will waste much time if the parts don't swap across Norm. I would think you shouldn't have a problem
changing the parts over.

Cheers
Max.

Thanks Max,
I thought it should swap over without too many issues as long as the stator has the mounting points on the new motor. I don't think it is the valves leaking, it is just so heavy to get it spinning and I am just not strong enough these days to get it spinning fast enough to fire. It runs very well once you get it running. I will see how it works out.
MF,
This motor would need one very big impulse starter 10.5 hp requires big shoulders to get fired up
