I am getting a victa tornado ready and I took the 2x 18in blades off and put ga spares BNC6490 (victa 19s) on but they dont clear the chassis.
As far as I know the tornado takes 19in blades, with 18in blades the cut measures 18in but with 19in blades its 19.5in. The blades measure 120.65mm long as they are meant to.
The blades don't look strange but have I got duds?
Doesn't matter, figured it out, someone has been here before me - the 19in disc is a bit smaller. If you use the regular 18in disc you end up with the cut needed for the 505 20in ones
Hi Tyler, yes there are different blade disc and blade combinations to make up the desired width. A smaller disc saved me trouble when I ordered the wrong length blades for my ute. I ordered the older type which are longer. When I combined them with a smaller four blade disc I had lying around, it measured 18" across thankfully.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
For a long time I always ordered 19 inch blades because they were cheaper, wider and thicker and I just trimmed them to suit the 18 inch. Never had a problem with them
Yes the main difference with the victa tornado base was that it was intended to be used as a mulcher mower so the mulcher blade plate was designed to push the grass down for mulching and as Tyler has said the blade bolts are in a different position to the old plates.
I haven't had to buy bucket loads of blades because I had shed loads of mowers but I'm just scrapping the good running ones now .

You're scrapping perfectly running mowers without apparent faults? I'm getting old non working mowers ready for a tip run to a scrap metal yard. I have been dismantling them in an effort to separate aluminium from the steel and iron. Do you just take them complete and leave it for them to separate the various metals?

Yes Mf ,I just have too many mowers that don't sell ,the engines and wheels I keep but the alloy bases sell for scrap after all the other parts are removed and steel bases etc are sold for scrap metal.
I see a lot of clean running mowers that only sell for $50. now ,so not worth selling in my opinion.
