40 years or more now NormK. I remember IR remotes were common by the late 1980s.
I remember a TV we were renting in the very early 1980s had this very chunky cordless remote control with large chrome push keys. I was spellbound by this luxury feature.
Whatever signal it used to talk to the TV came out of this hole with a fine mesh across it at the end of the remote control.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I don't remember anyone having a corded remote TV but do remember the National top loader VCR and National front loader
VCR in the eighties having corded remotes .Yep corded remotes are a little antiquated now.

Think I may have a slight memory of Hospital TVs having corded remotes.

Cheers
Max.

Still no updates on the battery project, but thought you guys would get a good laugh out of my recent stupidity regarding electrics.

My dashcam was playing up, turning on and off. Then it just stopped completely. No power at the cigarette socket. Pulled the fuse panel and looked though trying to find the right fuse. Closest I could see was P/outlet. Pulled the fuse and it was blown. Grabbed a 12v air compressor and confirmed the 2 other cig lighter sockets in the car (one in rear seat and one in boot for an engel fridge or whatever) both had power.

Seeing no other alternative, I started attempting to pull the console to get at the connector behind the lighter. After 20 minutes of swearing and getting not all that far, I thought I should really have a good look (with glasses on) at the fuse chart again. Looked again and still came up blank. on the chart it has the map, and on each fuse has the description in english (in about size 8 font, then underneath each english term is the same in korean (I think).

Turns out about 5 fuses to the right there was a one in about size 2 font (purely due to the length of the ****ing word in korean taking up 2 lines) "c/lighter" blush

Because I had never used the other plugs, I had no idea of the second blown "P/outlet" fuse that sent me on a wild goose chase.

Put the dash back together, new fuse plugged in the dashcam and blew the fuse again. New charger adaptor and all is well.

Smashing the old dashcam adaptor made me feel a lot better smile
