Hi Max Jack and MF. Max I completely understand that scanning that quantity of material and then to try and post it would be a full time job for a decent amount of time. So I'm also in the same boat Max and I get it I really do. I'm going to scan the stuff I have because I do have the time and I have borrowed this information and need to return it but posting it as individual pictures when I can only post 10 pictures at a time and I have no idea how many pages I have to scan plus I haven't asked permission to either post or even share this information yet, I'm sure it will be fine but I haven't asked. Max my information starts at 1980 and I'd love to get my hands on that 70's stuff, but again I completely understand it's not just a simple task. Even taking the information out of the plastic sleeves and making sure I scan the info in the correct order and make sure I put it back in the sleeve the way it came out can be a bit stressful for me because I don't want to return something in any other condition than I received it in and I have hundreds of pages to do this with. So Jack once I've finished scanning, making sure everything is in the correct order and I have permission I'm going to have to speak to you about how to post larger amounts of pictures without havingto do it 1 at a time. I've said this in the past, "this will take a long time but it will eventually get done" and I'm making that call on this stuff too and now I have an excellent scanner so this stuff will be excellent quality. Don't worry MF I'll email you the stuff once it's done. You will love what I have because it's very power torque engine related.

G'day Sean and Jack, I guess the easiest way for material to be uploaded is in a pdf rather than uploading say a hundred images Sean ,you can get image to PDF converters online. I just need to work out how to get images from micro film without spending $2700. on a microfilm scanner. Cheers Max.

Hi MW, SN & CJ, Don't any libraries have microfiche readers anymore? I haven't I used one in 30 years or so.

G'day Mf , S & CJ, I tried a 600 DPI scanner and that was no good ,I remember a long time ago schools converting their microfiche to digital format for computers .When I google libraries with a microfiche reader I only find one in the a country area.

Hello all Have attached two digitised microfiche scans from Fiche 17_1981-83 Bulletins. My fiche are not ideal quality, lots of greasy smudges and some deterioration as you can see from the F17 photo. I have not done any digitisation of these fiche for a couple years and in most cases just did the fiche index for later reference or some items that were of interest. F17 has 28 images plus index. I will have a look at it after Christmas to see if it is any other images are good enough for scanning etc and, of course, whether the old scanners are still working. Mark

Hi MarkN, Maxwestern and Sean, That came up with amazing clarity Mark. I hope Sean's scans come up the same. I'll be reading away.

I haven't been online to see all the comments on this thread. But the picture I have attached is the quality of my scans.

I didn't spend $650 on a scanner and printer for no reason. The scanner/printer I have is capable of printing good sticker decals, scanned documents almost come in better quality than the the original document scanned, is completely compatible with my phone so I can sit anywhere I want and put the power on it and start scanning. Im still working on the software for touching up scanned decals, so that when I print them they look completely new. Also other software to make my own colour combinations on the original decal shapes to make certain mowers match but are custom. I have started, I'm a 5th of the way through scanning the folder of information. So it's coming, but it's going to take time!

I'd the printer a laser printer or inkjet? The problem with stinkjet is they dissolve on contact with water, laser printing does not.

G'day all
Many thanks to Sean for the initiative. Brilliant!
These docs are important to Victa collectors.

Many thanks to Max, MF and MarkN for helping me
understand the issues.

Microfilm was - in hindsight - an interim technology.
I wish libraries had never engaged with it!

Cheers

Was that on anticipation of improved computers? I guess PDF files became the eventual solution.

Im still looking into it but I believe I may be able to buy an attachment for my phone and program that "MIGHT" be a viable option for reading microfiche film. So leave it with me but I think I'm on to something that might work but before I shell out $100 or $300 I must know that it does exactly what we want! I have 2 options for the phone and I have seen 1 old school reader that was quite pricey.

G'day Sean ,Mf ,Jack and MarkN Looking at the Microfilm reader and the magnification is up to 90 X ,there seems to be a few ways that this can be done. Cheers Max.

You are looking at the same pieces of equipment as I am. Awesome stuff Max, if you don't want to pay for one I'll happily buy one and if you are open to lending me the film I'll go ahead and scan it all and post it! But some excellent news Max

Oh, I hope you find a good reader Max! If you don't post it I'd love to get a copy of them. Just private message me if it's too much information and we can work out a way to share it if you're OK with that?

Hello All, I have finally managed to digitise microfiche #17, Victa Domestic Bulletins 1981 - 1983. The source fiche are of variable quality and the resulting scans have been "cleaned up". My challenge was finding a balance between image quality and file size to fit within the 2.86 MB up load limit. Any suggestions on optimising this would be welcome. The resulting three pdf files are attached. Hopefully these Technical Bulletins will be of interest. Mark
