Hello ODK History Lovers
The Lawn Patrol was an Australian rotary lawnmower made
by Francis John Boundy. Introduced in late 1954 for the 1955
season, this was an early petrol rotary made just a couple of
years after the petrol Victa of late 1952.

Boundy lawnmowers did not follow Victa’s skirtless
‘Toe-cutter’ base. Boundy bases of the 1950s were
alloy and skirted. They were advanced!

This article discusses one of the last Lawn Patrol brochures
– from, best guess – 1959 for the 1960 season.

The Wiltshire File Company announced that John Boundy
had left Boundy Manufacturing in September, 1959.

In the same month, Wiltshire advertised that they
held outright ownership of the Boundy Company.
This was all planned, with Wiltshire having gained a
controlling interest the previous year.

Boundy advertised for a ‘Project Engineers’ to
take over from John Boundy in July of 1959.

Wiltshire’s capital clearly ‘fixed’ the manufacturing
flaws of the Boundy 2-stroke engine. The new BMS
engine [1958] would feature for the 1960 season –
with just two offerings – the Lawn Patrol 15 inch
and the Lawn Patrol 18 inch.

The theme, “Don’t let weekend leisure slip away”,
is, for me, catch-up advertising – with a close eye on …
Victa marketing genius.

There is a distinct difference between 1950’s AUS
mower advertising and the advertising focus for a
new, optimistic decade. Have you spotted it?

TO BE CONTINUED …

measuring 3” x 5 1/2”. It is in mint condition.

This brochure is from my collection and I make
