You're right, it's an ungainly looking beast with the Briggs wce. Much better suited to a Rover. The catcher is the wrong shape for that model as well. I believe it had the Corvette style single handle design.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
