G/Day All.
Finally got my Scott Bonnar 35 looking a lot better than when I acquired it. Just waiting on the muffler to be repaired.

Cheers.

G'day MM
The Model 35, for me, captured the essence of the utility mower.
It improved on the Victa Model 4 design by adding a safer, skirted base.

Like Victa, SB was bold enough to make its own engine for purpose.
Unlike Victa, SB never saw those wild production numbers.

Nonetheless, I feel the Model 35 was an improvement on the
utility idea, but better - and safer - than the Victa utes of the day.

Your restoration seems to be pretty close to HT6's resto of a
decade ago. LINK: https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/34477/scott-bonnar-35.html

That would be a credit for detail - including getting the colours 'right'.
You seem to both agree as to that.

The 'trip release' starter makes this an early 1960s model.

I note you have used some different fasteners - like 'Dome Nuts'
on the chassis - and I guess plastic cable ties are a sensible exception.

I love what you have done here. smile

Do you have any advise to some folks being 'stickler' restorers?
Does every thing have to be so 'correct'?

Cheers

G/Day Jack.
Thanks for your reply. When it comes to a restoration project, you would like to have it as close to original as you can. Make sure all the parts needed for the project are available, a great way do this is either by word of mouth, or on the internet. Join a forum the people in these clubs are always willing to help if they can.
Cheers.

Our neighbours from across the street in the 80s had a later SB side throw with white Briggs vertical pull circa early 70s. We used to sneer and joke at it's basic looks but came away impressed when I started it up and had a go. Cut so cleanly and started first pull every time. Loved how it shot a cloud of clippings with gusto.

It was the first Briggs, Scotty and side throw mower I experienced all at once.
Nice seeing one getting a makeover here. That looks so smart all done up for the ball. Particularly like that dark green.
Now you have to cut grass with it though!

Is that Scott's own 2 stroke engine?

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

G/ Day Barry & MF, sorry for the late reply, but I have been off line for the last 7mths. Yes MF it is Scott' s own engine. And Barry when I get a chance I will let you know where I purchased the rings from.
Cheers.
Maurice.
