Hi guys, new to the forum here. Found this place when looking around for info for my 70-72 4 stroke Imperial.

I picked it up a month ago but never got a proper chance to run it, the Kirby HK30 is having some issues firing, I think it's got a bad coil. I just got a working Tecumseh H30 from an SB off marketplace and wanted to do an engine swap since it seems to be in a lot better condition.
Removing the existing motor is proving to be difficult though, I cant get the clutch free from the drive shaft.

There's only 1 place for a set screw on the inside part of the clutch and it looks like part of the screw has broken off inside. From the pics you can kinda make out that only half of the screw is there. If I were to drill that out, should the engine just pull away from the clutch?

Hello Zenziba
I think the best first thing to do is remove the engine and
the clutch flywheel from the clutch drum.

They are held by an interference fit of the drum side of the
clutch to a ball bearing on the flywheel side.

Remove the engine bolts and pull the engine outwards
for release.

That will permit you to start the next stage of the process.
You will have an engine and clutch flywheel (with pads)
released from the mower chassis.

Hope this helps.

Hey Jack,

Thanks, appreciate the insight.

I've already got the engine bolts loose but it wasnt pulling away that easy. Should I just tap at the outer edge of the flywheel side to help release it?

Hello MD
Yes, a good serious wack with a soft mallet on the clutch flywheel
should release the shaft and bearing from its interference fit.

Maybe, rock music of choice should accompany.
East-Coast USA soft rock; not AC/DC terminal velocity.
But you do need deliberate action!

Cheers
