Hi all,

The GX160 on my troweling machine revs flat out when I start it, after searching the forums here it appears that it has something to do with the governor inside the engine.
I’m having difficulty removing the key on the PTO spline. Can anyone please suggest the best/easiest way to do this? Cheers

Hi Krazypan

I usually just pry the key out with some side cutters but if it's completely seized in then a few other methods may be needed.

If side cutters don't work I would drill and tap the key and use a slide hammer but welding metal to the key is another method.
Some video footage here https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/104800/stuck-woodruffe-key.html

Cheers
Max

Are you sure somebody hasn't played with the governor arm, the travel on the shaft is miniscule and if it has been fiddled with it will give you this problem

No I downloaded the manuals from the forum and have done the old process of elimination trick, throughly cleaned carby, reset governor arm, set maximum speed etc. only thing left is the governor inside the motor
