Hi all, just recently joined the group and may I say what a wealth of information. I myself don't own any mowers but my son has become addicted to cylinder mowers and the other day he rocks up with a Ransomes MK5 18" and says "here's a project for you". So anyway the fun begins. Ipswich Qld is my home town. Regard Geoff

Well, Ipswich has a wonderful Rail Museum.
A warm welcome to these forums.

I was reminded about Ransomes just yesterday, when I saw
a Ransomes Leviathan thrashing machine and a Ransomes
traction engine. Both were working and looked awesome.

The Mk5 18" Minor is the least common of the Minors.
It was an expensive machine in the day and was a solid job.
The reel is a piece of art.

Did it come with a catcher?

Please keep us informed as to progress.

Cheers

Hi Jack, unfortunately it didn't come with a catcher. I have started tearing it and main damage is the bedknife is shot and the reel bearings, any suggestions on finding a bedknife. Cheers Geoff

Hello batchit
There are some AUS companies that can reproduce
bottom blades to sample.

UK places should have info. on their files (without sample).
https://www.oldlawnmowerclub.co.uk/technical/spares/blades

The counter-sunk slot-head set screws are locally available.
I think these old Ransomes used double-row, self-aligning
reel ball bearings.

Cheers
