2-stroke mower addict!
So here is another mower that I have received. It's been painted red over, what I think is a beautiful original orange. Im gently removing the red.
Serial number: 134701897

G'day Seanoss

This Utility looks like the number starts 1374 in the image, anyway this mower is 1974.

Hello Seanoss and Max

I thought the 74 models were zip start, my 74 160 ute is. Can you take the zip start off and fit a trip release ? i don't know, maybe it's had a change of engine top ?

Cheers

So I went back out with my magnifying glasse and the number is %100 134701897. The photo is not a very good one! Also the stamping is very badly done...... I'll get a good photo tomorrow. I'm done researching for tonight!!! My brain is just completely fried...... %99 sure it's a 70-71 utility part code V83

Yes 74 is zip start , this mower looks like the motor is a 125 but has a different cowl, the impulse starter or zip starter can be easily fitted,
I've never been a fan of impulse starters so if I have a mower that gets used a fair amount I would always convert to
zip start .

This Utility can't be 1970 the muffler doesn't discharge under the base in 1970 or early 1971.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for the wind up start. It gets laborious very quickly when the engine needs more than two attempts to fire.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Thanks for all of the input from everyone. Questions! Is the orange the original colour or is it an under coating?
