Alloy base Victa and Masport mowers @ $10 each - there may or may not be catchers on the pile that fit these!

And this one 'followed me home' for $40;

Hi Gadge,
They have realistic prices always there, just too far for me to drive these days

G'day NormK and Gadge,
$10 is very good, even with catchers missing. Massey has a premium engine there.
The best tip shop is the kerb during a collection.
I wonder if the fire pump can get going.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

For some reason it had a Champion UJ-12 plug in it, so I'll replace that with the correct NGK type, and see if it will kick over. Oil is quite dirty; but it's at the correct level, and the engine turns over freely. These I/C Briggs sidewhackers are a really tough engine.
Edit: a look at the parts list reveals that as well as the cast iron cylinder liner, this one also has ball main crankshaft bearings!

It'll be getting a full overhaul anyway, before it goes to its new home, with a good friend who lives on a small acreage, over at Narracan.

I hope that includes paint. Let us know how it goes.

I won't go overboard on a 'full resto'. Probably just mask up the cowling decals, and shoot a coat of acrylic clear over the existing paint, if it cleans up OK.

The fuel in this one was very dark in colour, but didn't smell 'stale'. Anyway, I sucked it all out , and ran it through a filter, into my parts washing fluid drum!

Update: We have a runner! New, correctly gapped NGK BR2LM spark plug, and a fill of fresh BP 95 Premium; half a dozen pulls to prime the Pulsa-Jet carby, and away she went. Idles nicely, too.
