I have had this Hurricane Engine for a while but have never been able to figure out what mower it belongs to.

It is a Hurricane engine with H180 stamped at the base of the combined cast iron cylinder block and head so assume it's the Model 180 based on this info https://www.vintagemowers.net/mower_hurricane.php

Does anyone recognise this?

Hello Claude
Alright, the issue here is that Hurricane was both an engine maker and a mower maker.
As you know, the Model 180 refers to the engine, not the mower.

I know that that tear-drop tank should be dated closer to the md-1960s,
as Hurricane were using round tanks prior to that.

The second point is that many mower makers used their own handle-mounted
fuel tank when they used Hurricane engines.

Given the colour (red/orange), and the info I have researched, the best I can say is
that this engine was certainly used on Hurricane's own Silent 2 lawnmower.

Hope this helps.

Fantastic Jack, thank you very much. That is certainly the same engine by the looks of it.
