I haven't used my chainsaw for about 4 years, and never had an owners manual. I think that the right gas/oil mix is 32:1, but the "authorized dealers" I spoke with didn't keep manuals for ancient chain saws. Anyone know what a HOMELITE XL-12 needs for the gas/oil mix?

My homelite dealer told me 16:1. However, the previous owner used 40:1. I have used both and only see slight differences in performances. Since the saw is quite old, I'm not sure how much damage has been done (if any). I will keep running mine at which ever is on hand until It dies. then I can buy a newer, safer saw.

I run my homelight on a 25:1 mix it runs fine and it doesn't run hot.

This was my question, and I finally found a dealer that was able and willing to answer. In the old days, standard motor oil was used with gasoline. The mechanic said that the old rule of thumb was to add an 8 ounce coke bottle of oil to a gallon of gas (128oz/8oz, or 16/1). Modern 2 cycle lubricants are better, so less oil is needed. I was told that 40/1 was probably OK. I won't run less oil than 32/1, and will probably run 24/1 on my next mix.....just because I don't ever want to buy another saw if I only use it for 10 hours a year.

I have access to most HOMELITE Owners Manuals & Parts Books.
BTW HOMELITE originally used 16:1 oil, then added 32:1 in the 1960's +/-. They now only sell 32:1 & EXACT MIX, which is 2.6 oz to a gallon or 4 liters

I am a current oldtime HOMELITE dealer with an extensive inventory of NEW, NOS & USED parts.
Check or credit card thru PayPal at https://www.paypal.com/

Shipping is free for parts over $50 within the contintal US...Will evaluate any others

I accept Money Order or PayPal:

I can't find the model # of my Homelite Super XL. Do you know where to find what model it is?

Thanks, Kevin
