I have having trouble refitting the muffler clips that hold it in place. Is there a trick to doing this? Help! I managed to fit the bottom clip in place but can not manage the top clip. The exhaust is locating in place.

I generally use a long thin screwdriver, put it through the hook that goes over the muffler and stretch it over.

Thanks Joe, I will try again. The clip still is very stiff, the mower has had very little use. The clip kept on popping off. Thanks again for the quick reply. I have four of the blessed Victas with various problems!

I have 40ish blessed parts victas out in the back yard, the clip can also be attached by putting the muffler end on first and using pliers to put the tab into the hole in the block. smile

What happens some times with the muffler is that the edge is not flat and the clips come off. The easiest way is to use a hammer to flatten the edge and all will be ok.

I use an old edger blade (one of the thin mower type blade metal) and cut out a section in the center so that it fits over the clip. Then bend the two legs slightly so that it fits over the edge of the muffler lip then put a small phillips head screwdriver through the clip and use the blade to lever the clip over the edge to lock the muffler clip on. cheers2

Thanks Joe and Bruce. I used a long thin flat screwdriver to flex the spring and it went on no drama. I had some convoluted way of attaching it with a sharp wood punch as a lever 20 years ago, thanks guys for all three great ideas, cheers.
