Junk collection in the area and spotted this not far from me, gave the cord a pull, made the right noises so grabbed it. Perished primer bulb and cap on upside down might be an issue. Found a second hand cap in the shed, fitted with new o ring, one axle clip and she runs like new.
MF - I would wager very few are being crushed. Anything I put out on the verge is gone within half an hour. Lot of guys are fixing (or at least stuffing around) with these.
Anything at the tip gets snapped up within an hour. Only the really sad ones go to the crusher - and normally get picked over first

I was thinking that after posting. If wce hadn't grabbed it, someone else surely would have. I am normally annoyed that mowers are the first thing to be scrounged but the silver lining is an army is stopping many ending up in the hydraulic jaws of the garbage compactor trucks and remain in circulation.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Bit strange this Junk collection, there isn't much stuff being put out as usual and normally our street gets turned into a main road with the amount of utes, trailers, vans etc doing the rounds but hardly a car has been spotted. My pile wasn't touched and there was a reasonable amount of scrap metal in it. Now don't get me wrong, not having a crack at anyone, in the current situation a lot of people do require financial assistance from the government and I don't have an issue with that. My theory is that the sit down money currently on offer is enough for the battlers to have a junk pick or 2 off, good luck to them.

Interesting wce. Might indicate what we are missing on when things are normal! I remember throwing out a trashed Victa with many missing bits and a husk of a motor left which I deemed near worthless and within minutes a tatty old Commodore station wagon rolled up and the passenger got out and loaded it up and whisked away and we were in a quiet street with no through traffic.

Not much around North Perth (noticed they had a collection the other day) drove around 45 minutes an old found 2 things. GMC FC blower and a nearly new Hortex fertiliser hose sprayer (all that was wrong was a blocked filter).
I put out a Masport with briggs 35 - ran but pretty knackered, an old alroh edger that was absoloutely stuffed, and a victa deck. Within 10 minutes, 2 very cheery guys in an old ute pulled up. They already had a tonne of stuff on the back and couldn't fit it. I put them aside for them. Never came back.
Took a while but I worked out what happened - they must have been drunk and either forgotten where they were or passed out. Passenger was worse than driver, but still
I left some lengths of steel sticking out of the skip so people could see it - it went.
My personal opinion is that (with everyone at home more) the good stuff is going on gumtree more (I keep seeing $20 mowers up for only 20-30 minutes before ad goes)
