The last time I bought Bar & Chain Oil was about 4 months ago, it was Husqvarna 5 litres for $28.00, I went back to the same shop they only have
Echo brand Bar & Chain Oil now the price is $34.00 for 4 litres .

The world oil price has dropped dramatically yet the price of Bar & Chain Oil has
increased..talk about a rip off, I might try to buy it bulk elsewhere.

Hey Wayne, Jeez mate, at $8.50 a litre, thank heavens we don't have to run our mowers with the stuff!! lol!!

Darryl, you right, we get ripped off here, in the US it sells for $8.00 a gallon.

What is bar oil exactly? All I remember my stepfather using since I was 4 years old and still uses today is generic motor oil, Saw does tonnes of work and maybe went through a chain/bar every few years.

We mainly used to cut firewood as we had 120 acres of solid bush around the house, we would stack the wood 3 wide for about 50m down both sides of the driveway and as high as it would go. Once that job was done we didnt have to cut any for the rest of the year!

Bar oil is similar to motor oil with an additive to make the oil more sticky so it clings to the bar better.
I'm thinking of using motor oil mixed with 20% oil stabilizer to make the oil sticky .
That would cost me half the price of bar oil.

I do remember my setfather mumbling that the proper oil did reduce wear a little because it was stickier, it was just a matter of price at the time. The old stihl still lives today!
