This generator runs fine when I get it started, yet when I turn on the fuel without the engine running it dribbles fuel from the carby.
The needle and seat is fine.
What I cannot figure out is why are there 2 fuel lines to the carby from the fuel tap, one large which is obviously the inlet and a smaller one which if I didn't know better I would surmise as a fuel return line. But, since there is no fuel pump and the carby is below the fuel tank it would defeat the purpose in reality.
Also when it stops there is a slight hissing sound from the carby and fuel vapours are emitted from it.

Riddle me these please.

Gazza

Hi Gazza,
I have no idea what the second hose is for but to prove that there isn't a problem with the needle and seat I would plug the small hose both ends (don't cut the existing hose just use a bit of scrap hose) and plug both ends and then you can prove if the needle and seat are the problem. If the carby still leaks then the problem is the needle or seat as there is no other way it can leak

Thanks Norm,

I have already isolated the carby from the engine, hooked up the large fuel hose only and turned on the fuel. NO leaks ??

Replace carby, hook the smaller hose back up where it was originally and it pisses fuel like a drunken sailor in Kings X.

Got me stuffed

Picked this up for $50 and it does run fine, except for the leaking fuel when stopped.

Had to put my eyes back in when I saw these little buggers are selling for over AU$500 on ebay!!!!!

Hells bells, 300W and made in 1965 and they are very very collectable apparently.

Ok Gazza,
plug off the second hose it is obviously putting fuel into the bowl above the float so I have no idea of its purpose. I would just cut the hose in the middle and plug it with a piece of rod and push it back together so it looks original

Hi Gazza

A couple pictures would help a bit, I am not really familiar with these little ones. I had a look at the parts list though and I would suspect a hose has been hooked up wrong. I would say the reason it floods when you connect the hose is the you are blocking the atmosphere vent from the carburetor bowl. that hose should go down to the bottom of the case with the drain hose. On the parts list there is a Tube valve breather that goes from the fuel valve down and out the case as well. Would need a pic of the valve to confirm what the hose should do.
