A friend of mine has added this Hurricane engined mower to his collection, The Grasscutter made in Redfern Sydney by RVM Engineering.

Never heard of that one, Paul. I reckon you could almost convince me it was a Boundy?

Is that a "thermos" style tank on the bars?

G'day Paul, wce and Mystyler
Well, no Boundy, but I understand the thinking.
Few collectors will have heard of this one.

I have written about the dichotomy that pervaded our early rotaries -
between the skirted and skirt-less jobs.

Here, the skirt is pretty flat, like the first Paces.
The styling ques are an amalgam of rotaries of the day.

Paul, Kye first pointed out to me this particular RVM when it
appeared on his website a couple of years' ago. This is the only
extant one I know of.

In fits and starts, I have spent a bit of time looking at the RVM.
I date it to about late 1956. Frustrating research for sure!

Mystyler, I love your coined phrase 'thermos style tank'.
It is surprising just how many makers used this style of tank.
If it is okay, I would like to use that term from now on.

Paul, I will attempt a History Record this weekend.
I have a bit to say about it, but no revelation. frown

It will appear under the title: R.V.M. - Dependable Grasscutter - c1956.

Cheers

Jack, I suppose the more correct term would be fuel cannister? Or cannister style tank? Nah, still looks like a thermos. Feel free to use as required. Looking forward to some weekend reading.

I do like the simple symmetry of it. I'm guessing it's missing the air shroud and flywheel, and possibly starter?
