G'day all,

Yep, JB was something of a driver right enough; a Trove newspaper search using the term "john boundy" [including the quotes] turns up quite a few articles, apart from ads. As you might expect of a Spitfire pilot, with combat experience...

He was a competitor in at least one Redex Trial, in 1954; https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/201195038

And his Armstrong Sapphire 'daily driver' car, the same one he drove in the Redex Trial, was pretty quick, by 1950s standards at least; https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/132053768

He did get done as at fault for a crash though; https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/218514500

Cheers,
Gadge

G'day Gadge, Steve, Paul, and all the Boundy Boys.
I keep coming back to the question of 'Who was John Boundy'.
I have been doing this for a decade now.

Recently, I have made some decent progress.
Gadge, I have found some great articles about Boundy's driving skills;
one about driving his pregnant wife to the hospital, driving in the
Mobilgas Trial, and an accident ending in a court case.

Steve, many thanks for the new records.
In fact, one of the categories I have was companies ability to
sponsor events.

Yes, Jack must have been a bit of a driver ...

I have found some good information that explores Boundy's move
from a successful Diesel reconditioning, repairs and parts business,
to his entry into lawnmower making. I think he wanted a clean break;
to become a manufacturer in his own right.

Cheers
Jack

The Victorian Automobile Dirt Track Club is now negotiating with the two bodies to stage regular production-car dirt -track events. Unlike the former stock car racing at Brenock Park, where a winner was determined by his ability to bump his opponent out of the way, this type of racing relies on manoeuvrability and the driver's ability to skid, rather than speed, to win. Anawnereas stock cars were well protected and "souped up," production cars have no more refinements than those provided by the maker. Test Trials About 20 of these enthusiasts took part in trials at Brenock Park yesterday to test the suitability of the track for such events, and to explore the possibilities of production-car racing In Victoria. A spokesman for the club (Mr. H. E. Salter) said last night the response from drivers was encouraging, and, if other factors were favorable, regular events would be held at Brenock Park. "At the moment, however, the track is not wide enough, so we are negotiating with ii me pars irus. Leading cars are expected to reach Rockhampton early tomorrow morning. A competitor, Mr. J. E. ODonnell of Port Kembla, was disqualified when he reached Dalby without his log book. The first car Into Murgon tonight, between Kingaroy and Maryborough, was car 2, driven by John Boundy of Clayton, Victoria, in a Spacemaster.

Luv the info gents - keep it up.
Steve
Steve, unfortunately you've only snagged a fragment of that The Age article; here's a screenshot of the full piece, and a link to the newspaper images at Google News.

The Spacemaster car was a Standard Vanguard model, BTW.
