I have at least 50 of these straight fueled motors but most of mine are complete.

Hi NormK,
I have a handy couple of green ones sitting in my yard on that basis. wink

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

And whilst you are in the shed you could use a permanent marker to convert those talons to rovers

Desperate times ! what about all the SB stuff that's being dragged out and the prices asked.

Hi NormK,

As suggested before, if you get them all rebored at the same time by the same mob, surely you’d get some sort of discount for not needing to get everything setup 50 individual times yeah? Then you’d have 50 ready to swap out or throw on good bodies and flog off smile

That's just fraud and a very bad one at that, though plenty would fall for that and think they've scored a good deal.

As the old saying goes, there's one born every day...............but I reckon there's more than one, rather at least two handfulls in my opinion.

And please don't start me on the SB money pit that just keeps on going and going and who knows where that's going to end.

Idiots are paying up to $800 now for an unrestored Supercut that a few short years ago no one would've parted with anything higher than a 20 dollar bill for as I did.

I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.

pau13z,
I'm not sure what you don't get about this but even if I was able to get them bored for $50 then buy new pistions I would never get my money back in 50 years

I don't know what you normally sell them for, I just figured that if it cost up to $100 to do and you could throw it on an Alloy body which for all intents and purposes was landfill, you'd be looking at at least $200, and even if that old alloy base cost $50, you're still making $50? But I'm also looking at it from a hobbyist standpoint. The time taken doesn't bother me.

If I'm lucky I can get $100 for one that has taken me a couple of days to repair/restore. Ask anymore than that and they sit here forever and a lot I offload for $80 Alloy base I always sell for $100

Norm K maybe try sitting on them for a few years and when they become valuable on the collector's market, you can move in and make hay. That way you will get a return on those rebores. You might be waiting a long time for that return though.

Thus guy can't seem to wait.

MF,
let me assure you I won't be wasting any money on re-boring these motors. I remember going to a blokes place a few years ago and the pile of motors stacked up against the side of his house was hard to believe. Most of them were F/C's and I was nearly in tears because they were all just sitting there in the weather.

This. Just economically cost-prohibitive!

To give you an idea on cost, there's a bloke in Garfield Vic not too far from NormK, who does 2-stroke rebores for motorcycles and small engines [many engine reconditioners won't, due to the 'interrupted cuts' involved in the boring operation], and he charges $90 for a bore and hone only.
Customer has to source and supply the piston kit, and he will bore/hone the barrel to suit it.

Another ready source of Victa rebores is GA Spares' 'service exchange rebore' service, offered via their dealers.
E.g. for a 160 Full Crank barrel, supplied with piston/ring/gudgeon pin etc kit to suit the G3 carby, they seem to run $140-180 changeover.

How this works: https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/u...e-new-victa-vc-autodrive.html#Post105500

Cheers,
Gadge

Hi Gadge,
Any idea if GA Spares do the PT rebore, not that I would ever consider thinking of doing one because the cost would be prohibitive

I was at a Victa Gold Dealer who deal with GA spares who mentioned an exchange service for about $180 where you give them your existing bare PT mono block and you get a rebored one back to reassemble yourself -something like that. I presume you get the piston kit with your "new" block.

Yes they do, and those kits seem to run from around $110 or so, depending on the dealer.

Still a bit of cleaning work involved before fitting them tho', as the barrels/blocks aren't cleaned up after machining. The rebore kits Victa used to supply to their servicing dealers were the same.

Cheers,
Gadge

They do a PT Norm - a couple on their website - 'wide port' and keystart amongst them

I have a feeling you wouldn't like the price though - saw it on another site for $120. As you say, at this point in time, it makes more sense to put them aside

However, if you have the room to store them for future scarcity, it makes sense to keep them

NormK especially when they were made for 37 years vs maybe 9 and 7 tops for zip start and side pull full cranks respectively.
Yet you still see SPFC from time to time, especially the steel base ones which at least recently weren't commanding very high prices at all and could still be found dumped.
