Hi,

I've got a Rover Cylinder Mover with a Briggs & Stratton Engine

Model : 091202 Type : 1371 E1 Code : 0008023A

There was something unusual when I last used the mower. As per normal, I start the motor with the choke control in CHOKE position. When the motor is already running, t then moved the choke control to RUN position. However, when I do this now, it is stopping the motor. I was then forced to use it whilst the choke control is in CHOKE or nearly in that position. Is there something that needs adjustment or replacing ?

Hi Shannon,
The carby is going to need a strip and clean it obviously has a bit of dirt or varnish inside it

Second on the carburetor. But with this being a 2000 model, I would also check the valve clearances too as I have seen L-head engines to close up the clearances and cause similar problems.

Hi NormK and AWB,

Is there any available video or pictures to show how to strip and clean the carby and how to check the valve clearances ?

Cheers

Hi Shannon,
Is this the motor you are talking about?

Hi NormK,

It looks similar enough. Attached are some photos if you need to confirm.

Thanks NormK

I forgot to ask if there is a parts diagram for the carburettor so I can order the different parts that may require replacement

I used my mower again recently and after forcing it to start, it run but sluggishly. Whilst using it, I noticed the carburettor together with the petrol tank was slightly moving. To my amazement, I found the carburettor mounting screw was missing. Not one but both. I can't believe that both are missing and nowhere to be found. I can understand one can be missing but both is out of ordinary. This could explain why the choke is not working as it should be.

Hi Shannon,
the motor can/will run with the screws missing, it has an "O" ring that seals it to the manifold, the screws just prevent it from falling off. I doubt this has anything to do with the running issues. The fact that it runs means the "O" ring is sealing at the moment

Although it did run, it sounded erratic and stopped a few times until I noticed the movement of the carb / tank assembly. At this point, I just stopped running it and have a closer look. It probably was erratic as some of the fuel are not getting into the engine chamber which explain why there seems to be some fuel leaking out.

I did a search for carburettor repair kit using part no 495606 and it came back with 2. One cost $30.50 (Stens) and the other one is $91.60 (B&S).
Big difference in cost. Will the cheaper one be ok ?

Shannon,
did you try running it with the carby screws in and holding it in place. Best to try that before you try other things, always try one thing at a time, then you can backtrack if you have to

Unfortunately both carby screws are gone missing to my surprise and that's why the carb assembly wiggles and not secure. I will have to order this as well as I'm not sure if this is available on a local hardware shop.

If they are the carburetor to engine mounting you should use the Briggs 690953 as they have both 3/8" and trox heads. It makes it easier to install and remove one of the screws but the other is always a pain to remove and to install. The style used a hex with a double slot.

I am thinking they are 1/4" x 3/4"L normal coarse threads.

Hi AVB,

Yes part 690953 is what I found on the parts diagram and available from Outdoorking. You're dead right, thread length is 3/4" and 1/4". I can see that the one at the bottom could be tricky to install.

However, i'm not so clear when you say 3/8" and trox heads.

3/8" Torx heads?

I don't collect mowers. I just require Multiple Mowing Solutions™.
