Hi All
Just thought I would write up a review of an air compressor kit in the subject line I recently bought from Repco on sale @ $175. When I was looking around for an air compressor kit I couldn't find any good reviews online of this unit so I thought I would write one on here so people can search and find it.
This is the link and a photo attached of the unit and manual etc.
https://www.repco.com.au/en/tools-e...5hp-40l-an2540-kit-an2540-kit/p/A5425606I wanted something mainly for a basic air gun just to blow off mowers, clean parts, clean carbys, engines etc. I also want to use the air degreaser gun to clean off the engine block on my car as I've got some sort of slow gasket leak and down the track I want to buy a good spray gun to paint mower decks with (I'll post something seperate about this)
I got the air compressor out of the box and it just requires you to put the oil cap on, screw on the wheels and floor stopper. Pretty straight forward even for me. No scratches or marks and seemed to be decent quality.
It's a 2.5 HP direct drive engine, 120 Litres / minute free air flow and 40 litre tank. When you turn on it cuts out at 116 PSI and you can adjust the regulator to any pressure below 116 PSI you want.
Only issue I had was the coupler at the end of the hose that the air tools connect to. It was junk and leaked a lot of air even at low pressure. I took it back to the Repco store I bought it at and the young bloke was very helpful and the fitting size was non standard he ended up giving me under a warranty claim ;
1) new end barb piece to connect on to the hose once I cut off the old fitting with a hose cutter
2) Nitto coupler fitting (geez these Nitto fittings are high quality compared - Japense made comparedd to the junk fitting that comes with the unit)
3) hose clamp to hold it together.
With some teflon thread tape I put it all together and it looks a bit ugly but leaks ZERO air, very good solution and great customer service from the young bloke & he went above and beyond to help out.
What I would say about this unit, is it was $175 for the air compressor and kit (kit includes a air blow gun, air degreaser, spray gun, pump) I would say the air compressor is great but the air tool kit is junk. In hindsight I would spend the $175 on a slightly bigger / better compressor and buy the fittings and air tools separately.
I went out and bought a Air Boy blow gun (made in Denmark) and its very high quality compared to the air gun that came with the unit (photo attached of the red Air Boy blow gun) also the Air Boy blow gun ($25) I bought it from George at Jamiesons Air Tools in Burwood and he's a helpful guy
https://www.yellowpages.com.au/vic/burwood-east/jamisons-airtool-14817338-listing.html Even at the same pressure (116 PSI) the Air Boy Blow gun seems to give way more directed air and even was blowing the paint off my Victa Commando, would recommend it if you are using a crappy Bunnings $5 air gun as the difference is unbelievable.
Overall though I'm still happy with the air compressor and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking at buying. Just be aware that those direct drive air compressors are bloody loud and grating on your hearing. (Belt driven a lot easier on the ear)
I'm now looking around for a decent air spray gun to buy so I can start painting mower handles and mower decks in my garage.
It would be great to get any feedback on air compressors or spray guns from your blokes.
Cheers
Ted
