Hi all,

Picked up another MSAA Craftsman line trimmer recently ,they are just a cheaper version of the
Echo line trimmer , don't see that many around now so thought I would add some pics to the forum.

Heres some photos of my old one - first trimmer I ever bought. Ignition points and float carby. Run great - nice and smooth.

I wonder if that one is an Echo as well Tyler, it does look very similar to Echo snippers I have seen.

Definitely looks in great condition the MSAA SRP-206F.

Cheers
Max.

Thanks Tyler for that Website info ,I hadn't got around to looking up specs on the Echo Trimmers.

I thought a twenty cc snipper was on the small side but 13.8 cc sounds tiny ,at least Echo rev out to 8,000 RPM.

Found a few more SRM 200 Echo trimmers , all these early models still have points.

Tyler's MSAA trimmer must be a very early model considering the engine number is under 1,000 ,the earliest I
have is under 2,000 .

I hate whipper snippers, they are such time consuming horrible things

This old MSAA was quite easy Norm as it effectively was a scaled down mower carby -although it has a sliding barrel throttle. No diaphragm and tiny one way valves

Had points though - no great hassle though

Newer ones are not so easy

I started it up yesterday arvo - 6-8 months dormant and went 3rd go

Hi Tyler,
have you tried one of the PT ignition modules on one of them to do away with the points

The only snipper I fix to give away for free is the Ryobi with the choke that opens the throttle butterfly when cold starting.

They are always easy to start ,I find them quick to fix probably because I've had too many of them.

Yes Norm ,I find most are too time consuming, so I won't fix them to sell.

Norm, The coil is on the shaft side, points are at the back. Very little room, but probably would work. I will give it a god one day

Max do you mean like this https://www.graysonline.com/lot/0241-7004634/power-tools/ryobi-line-trimmer

or like this https://www.allbids.com.au/c/indust...yobi-plt-3043yw-30cc-line-trimmer-543564

The former I find an absolute mongrel to get going without a choke plate mod, the latter is an easy starter

I think it's the later one Tyler , I change carbies and air cleaners from different models ,will get some pics tomorrow .

It's the one that has a choke butterfly but it also opens the throttle butterfly when the choke is on.

Hi Tyler,
With the module you only have to connect it into the kill switch wire somewhere and earth the body of the module

That should be easy enough Norm, the kill wire is easy as its right up on the top

I could only find one with the carby that starts easier, it's the electric start Ryobi see pics, I gave away
the others I had.

There are a few Ryobi trimmers here that look the same but the carbies are different.

Just finished putting the green Ryobi back together ,it was missing a few parts but runs well now.

I agree Max - those ones don't have a choke plate in the carby - just the rod and another enrichment method

The later ones have a too large hole in the choke plate - I cover half with epoxy and they start easy - otherwise 5-10 pulls

The choke plate is the rod ,it has flat sections machined into the rod so when the choke is off the intake
is less restricted but yes they are not the normal type of choke butterfly.

Yes that should make them start quicker Tyler , that green Ryobi in the pic had a smaller hole
in the filter housing but I was missing the filter cover so I installed an older housing with a
larger hole and it now runs a little rough down low.

I have 2 of the green model and one has always started first or second pull - which is nice - the other 3 or 4

Have had issues of the spark shorting out within the plug boot - fixed with some insulation tape

Also have a brand new one in box - got it for about $100 on clearance a couple months ago - its the one bunnings sell with the chainsaw and long pole attachment. Effectively, for the price, I bought the chainsaw attachment and got the engine and extension pole thrown in

Or get a replacement where the hole is way too small and the trimmer floods on the very first pull. Been there once. Should had to modify a new carburetor but I did to get it work right.
