Hi All Members I have just signed up to the forum as a member and there is a lot of great information here. I had a look through the Victa section but does anyone know if on the forum there is a full manual for the Victa Commando Keystart 2 stroke mower ( circa year 2000 model) ? I had a look but couldn't see it. Thanks for any help Ted

Anything labelled "powertorque" or "g4 carb" will be of interest. Your engine has effectively been used 1984-2018, so plenty of info

By the way, it would appear yours is of a 1997-8 vintage (based on model number)

I don't get why most people would need the keystart feature. Powertorque motors need hardly any pulling effort to crank over anyway and it just adds weight and complications. That's a smart red example you've got there.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I agree MF - my 85 commando sat in the shed for 3 months and still only took 3 light pulls on the rope - that being said it usually goes 1st or 2nd

Thanks guys. You wouldn't believe it with the Victa commando in the photo. It belonged to a family members late father. It had supposedly been in the garden shed for 5 years without starting. They gave it to me. I just cleaned the mower with WD-40 garden equipment cleaner , I cleaned the fuel tank of its fuel, changed the spark plug, (old plug actually lstill ooked pretty good) topped up with 2 stroke and it literally started the 3rd pull and from my eyes runs perfectly. Then a few days later I didn't even change the battery that runs the Keystart, I just charged it on the car battery overnight and it started 2nd turn of the key. Has to say something about the quality of Victa, amazing

I agree regarding the Keystart. I guess maybe for old seniors it's helpful not to pull.

Thanks Tyler, what's vintage for a lawnmower, older than 25 years?

Hi Ted, and welcome here. Just be careful charging the battery up with a car charger, they will cook them but I guess if the battery is at least 5 years old then I guess it doesn't matter that much. Anyway seems you are off to a good start with the best lawn mowers ever made, just be careful collecting these can get out of hand quickly

Yeah I wondered that as I had read part of the Keystart manual on the forum and it sounds like the original Victa trickle charger had a much lower mA rating than my car charger. I was actually more concerned about wrecking my charger as I was willing to buy a new battery as I thought it would have been completely dead. It was 11.11 volts on the millimeter before charging and after overnight got to 13.1 Thanks Nornk

Hi, old post i know, but FYI, I have a key start mainly because I managed to remove a couple of fingers from my hand and pulling on a cord starter *stuffs* (insert better word here) me.... Cheers Fing ( yes, it's short for fingers, thanks to my workmates :-) )
