Hi fxxxrr, I think you have it a bit mixed up, I don't know if anybody enjoys mowing their lawn, it is the end result that they want, a beautiful looking lawn and to achieve this mowing it is part of that process. It is all about the look, not the effort you have to put in

Too bad he can't drive that truck over to my place I could really stand for a shop like that if I only had the money to build one. Matter of fact I already got a place for it.

Oh that's for my growing Victa collection!
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I enjoy mowing without a catcher.just blowing it out the back . Using razor sharp blades. I used a catcher for 7 years professionally......... no more if I can. Also specially if I resurrect a wreck, beating the system. cheers speedy

BB, do you enjoy mowing or is it the enjoyment of using your mower and how it is working? Speedy, I love your work, beating the system, helping your neighbours and being so green by helping keep a few million more Chinese junk mowers from polluting the earth, during manufacture and ending up in landfill

Speaking for myself, I like every aspect from the sound of the engine labouring through the growth to the sight of the newly mown path as you carve your way through thick grass. I also enjoy seeing the grass clippings fall out if the catcher and admiring the newly mown lawn and the aroma.

I am with speedy; I enjoy the machinery rather than the mowing. I couldn't see using a sanli would inspire me to go out, tinker around with it, and listen to the motor at all. When it comes to cutting grass/enjoyment factor, It all depends on the lawn and how much effort it needs.
My lawn isn't too much of a challenge, being a quite dry area (well, not at the moment haha), but it was my parents lawn that is the real kicker. Being next to an ex swamp, the land sucks the moisture in and out comes the grass. Parts of it I nicknamed 'The Sponge'. Kikuyu reaching for the sky within a week or less, and Buffalo so thick you could almost bounce up and down on it. I hated that lawn, and having to slog through it with the Corvette.
It was in the mid/late 90s though when I began to appreciate the old Victa. My parents bought a brand new, top of the line Masport with a large Briggs on it. I still remember the old man talking up the 4 stroke engine, and how much better it will be. He wanted the first time with the new toy, so he got it all ready, oil in the sump, everything checked. Mower started first go (always does though, so I won't kick it in that area), and off he went.
You could hear the struggle almost immediately. The mower was revving down in the long grass, choking out and having to pull back from areas where the Victa just goes right through it. I could see the frustration mounting on the old mans face! Then it hit 'The Sponge', the Buffalo grass was thick, and the poor old Masport choked and stalled. I couldn't believe it at the time. Everything I had been told about the awesomeness of the 4 stroke big Briggs engine was out the window. The old man took the mower off to clear out the grass blocking up the underside and I had to finish the job, with the horrible old Victa! It just roared straight through it all and didn't miss a beat.
After that, the Masport was relegated to front lawn duties where things were a lot drier, while the Victa had to deal with the tough stuff up the back. Admittedly, the Masport is also still going strong, no servicing apart from oil changes and the odd spark plug clean, so I won't knock it for reliability, though I hardly ever see other peoples 4 strokes getting half the life of it.
Back in '06 when I bought my house and got my own Victa, I did take it over to the parents house for the ultimate test, and while it didn't catch the grass as well as the old corvette, it still powered through the jungle as good.
I still hate mowing that lawn though, but the machinery makes up for it.

To me it's about both the machinery and also the appearance of the result. I don't just get excited over Model 45's, but rather the result that's been achieved from using it. Then there's the maintenance and up keep of the machinery, that's also part of the hobby I guess.
Anyway I'm off to give the lawn it's 3rd cut of the week.
Cheers, BB.

B_B it's a means to the perfect cut for you.
I'm waiting for the grass to be as dry as my humour before I cut it next. It's as high as 15cm in parts. Nothing my old 3HP vertical pull Briggs can't handle, though I intend to give one lucky 2 stroke a run this time.

Couldn't have said it better myself MF - I especially like when the 2 strokes smooth out under heavy load Will give the lawn its second cut of the month on saturday - that way it has a couple days to recover - 36 today and tomorrow (supposedly 30% chance of storm but nothing yet), 29 saturday, 27 sunday, 32 Monday. Last weeks cut was with the new (to me) 1981 FC Commando, so without lugging any off the shelves, there is a choice between the 1985 PT Commando, Honda HRU19D bitsa, 1998 PT Corvette or 2003 Masport XTS 50 Briggs Oh the choices haha On the plus side, the side verge block is due for a slash, so out comes the old Big Bob 21 inch

Hey Tyler, I'm close to sorting out my latest acquisition, a SPFC Victa Silver Streak would be parts donor now likely addition to the collection *sigh*.
That will probably go on next mowing duty to test it out at the same time. Someone has run a brown wire up with the snorkel but not connected to anything. When I started it and put it against the handle bar, a spark occurred but the engine didn't cut out. What does NK do to it again?

MF, if it sparks that means it is connected down at the bottom of the snorkel. If you hold the wire on the handelbar it should stop
