I have been watching an auction for a few days that had a one owner Series 2 Model 45 20 inch reel mower up for auction.

This auction was available for bidding for the past couple of days via the Internet but becomes live during the actual main auction that's held on Thursdays. The net bidding stalled pretty much at around $420 but when it went live at the venue it finished up at $850 plus Premium. So it nearly sold for 1K in the end.

I must admit that this somewhat staggers me as this was one of the very lately built 20 inch machines that has the 2 piece rear roller and the feeblely built twin rail chassis which really has not much strength in it. Also those later built 20 inch machines only had a 6 blade reel fitted opposed to the earlier 8 blade units, as well as the smaller reel bearings are used just like the 17 and 14 inch machines have.

This was proof that the 20 inch machine was no longer being produced as anything special, rather it was nothing more than a common grass cutter that was a little wider than it's brother the 17 inch mower and as such it was deleted from production around the early 1980's if my memory serves me correctly. Sadly it never survived the move to Eagle Farm and only the 17 inch machine continued it's production life.

Along with the above facts the catcher was also rather severely damaged with holes in it.

Anyway this clearly demonstrates that this SB craze is just not showing any signs of easing, rather it's still gaining momentum.

Cheers,
BB.

Hi wce,

Yes the 20 inch variant of the Model 45 seems to fetch huge dollars regardless of which series it is.

But in saying that the Series 1 is still considered "The King" and thus is the more valuable unit.

Cheers,
BB.

Hi BB

Anything that has SB on it seems to have been dusted in gold for a while now and as you said, the trend continues.

Cheers
