Hi Billy, That is a tough one, not going to be easy to get around it, The Masport one I can measure in the morning but I think the offset will be very similar to the Victa one. I'm thinking you may have to get these laser cut from 5mm plate and they can easily cut the holes with the ears in them to suit the Victa blades. What sort of boss did you fit, the spindles would have been much bigger that the Briggs 7/8th boss. You are right, bar blades suck. Thinking about it I wonder if I could put the Victa carrier in my press and press the boss center so it comes down flush with where the blades sit. I think it could be done, I will try one tomorrow see how it goes
didnt fit any boss, just drilled the victa discs to the same size centre hole as the bar blade which was 7/8th andd fitted with the standard murray centering washers
it actually worked quite well as far as a much better cut and cleared the cut grass out the chute much bettter but the mulching discs seemed to cause a bit of vibration but that was probly a blade trimming issue
That was super easy, short piece of 2 inch pipe and press it down. I used an oval one because I have bucket loads of those but the round ones will press down just as easily.
Well after finally receiving my Honda Blades today and fitting them I can confidently say that my Honda is finally complete and running as it should with a blade to skirt clearance of about 7mm which will provide much better suction than the under sized Victa Blade Carrier that had about 30mm clearance.

So how do you think this one I was working on today would work, a 19 inch Tornado fitted with only 2 18 inch blades. He did say it didn't seem to be working very well
I'd say it would be spitting grass out around the side skirt area as there would be far too much turbulence within the chassis and that interrupts the clean flow of grass to the catcher.
I've used quite a few Honda's in my time and they are rather clean in the way they function with debris pick up, while mine was quite untidy with the Victa Mulch & Cut Disc and correct Victa blades fitted.
Sad part is I currently don't have any lawn that requires the services of a slasher type mower to give it a run and test it out.
I've been waiting for over a week now for the blades I purchased and they finally turned up today and I still had to correct the shape of them (cheap Chinese crap) so that they would all cut at the same height or close enough anyway but with all blades being somewhere within 15 height difference this just isn't good enough. So out to the shed I went and corrected this issue.
So I'm waiting now to be able to cut my neighbors lawn that I'm looking after as I just did it yesterday with her Masport, which incidentally had a really good feel to it and far better than any top handle mounted Victa machine I've used over the years.
Horses for Courses I guess.

Hi Norm and B_B. I finished putting the v40 on the honda deck. I used 2 18 inch and 2 19 inch blades - just to see how it went. BB, as you say the 18 inch blades left a significant 30mm gap. The 19 inch blades are more like 6-8 mm.
I think (maybe) having 2 of each gives the added suction (2 19 in) but enough room to prevent grass being thrown out (18in blades 30mm gap)
The blades do sit slightly below the deck (about the same distance as the old low arch victa blades sat uunder their decks - a couple of mm.
It cuts and catches fine and is a lovely mower to use
I agree the Masports (especially with the alloy decks) do feel like solid mowers - I have 2 with classic 35's and 1 with the quantum 35. Also a pair of newer steel decks (03 Quantum and 09 "450 series" flat head).
If I could get a full crank 2 stroke onto an alloy Masport deck, I would be very happy. The old Quantum runs really well, starts first or second go everytime. All it has cost is an air filter, old throttle cable, spark plug, a fuel line, blades and 4 oil changes.
Norm, when I picked up the Tornado (which donated its engine and blade plate to the honda deck) it had a pair of ute blades on it - must have cut bloody badly. Although, the house I got it from (out of skip) was only across the street a few houses and the guy only has dirt with weeds
Hi Tyler, Fitting a full crank on a Masport can be done with a bit of work. If the base has the raised sections for the motor you could cut them off. This will drop the motor down enough so the blades end at about the right height. Then you would need a 3mm thick disc about 240 in diameter to bolt onto the deck to mount the F/C on. It would be easiest to use an early F/C with a rocket type muffler so it doesn't have to go through the deck and then you can mount the motor north/south and this gets the head away from the height adjuster bar in the east/west position. The mowers also feel much better with the motor north/south as it reduces the sideways vibration
