Yelp 99.9 % chance of bent crankshaft and sheared flywheel key. But hey what a great garden tiller or thatcher. Serious I see a riders with blades like this. I have even the spindles shafts bent on the riders. Just recently repair one deck where 1" spindle shaft was bent. This is not even from rocks but just tree roots.
Anyway if the lawn mowers are used to cut only grass and not tree roots and rocks then bar blades are not a problem. It called taking time to clear the area of hazards.

and then re-put it out on the nature strip again for some other sucker.
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Base looks ok and I have gained a new respect recently for those bases. Fit a Briggs, round 4 blade blade carrier and a Victa catcher and you have a good little mower

Just made me laugh MF as it made me remember the funniest crash I have ever witnessed 2 big sudanese guys trying to start their daihatsu terrios (flat battery), one said to the other 'pushy the cary hilly' (well thats what it sounded like - I was standing 15m away.) They proceed to try to push start IN REVERSE down the hill, got up too much speed somehow didn't get hit by the open door, the car ran away (out of my sight) and then a god almighty smash - ran straight into a then new Mazda 6

Lol Tyler so I spoke a Sudanese dialect without knowing it? That's interesting!!
If it can be made into a good piece of kit (opposed to the other word rhyming with kit) with Victa bits, scratch the idea. The steel deck is the major weak point with Victa, so the combination could actually make for a better mower, for small to medium yards at least.

MF, I would probably be the only mug doing conversions like this on the small machines because it is quite a bit of work. I had a number of these bases, usually in good condition because they have done little work, and a number of Briggs motors on bases that were pretty ratty. Then I also had a number of Victa catchers that had damaged front lips that once cut off they fit very well. The whole exercise was a win all round for me but in reality it was a pointless exercise because of the amount of time it takes to do them, but hey it fills in the day and I get satisfaction out of getting things running properly.

Bar blade mowers are truly disposable like tissues. You are making use of their good features that still have life left and as long as that gives you a good feeling and doesn't affect anyone else, you're doing the right thing. It makes me feel good just seeing the transformations into desirable mowers. The bases have excellent paint and wheels in most cases.

My pet hate with bar blades, apart from the fact that they are too light is exactly what happened to the mower in the original post, the bar blade hits something and bingo you can end up with a bent crank. With the round/oval blade carrier with swing back blades if it hits something it in most cases just bounces off. Not rocket science
