Haven't seen one of these before - thought they only sold them in NZ

Have seen later Masports with ironforce/suzuki 2 strokes (and even one with a 2 stroke Komatsu Briggs), but not one like this

Tyler,
always a chance that somebody has brought it over from NZ in a container when they have moved over here if they weren't sold here

Hello Tyler and Norm

This is not an easy issue for me.
Masport appears to have entered our market in the 1960s, and
they sold Masport mowers and garden equipment here from that time.

There most successful product was probably their Home Gardener,
that sold very well here in the 1970s.

This is a Tecumseh powered Masport and I think it dates
to the early 1980s.

All my research shows Masport fitted Johnson Ironhorse
2-strokes and Briggs 4-strokes for our market, but I have an
open-mind about later models sold here.

I am sympathetic to Norm's view but nothing is certain about this.

I note that Masport Whirlwind was operating here in the 1970s.
My guess is that Masport took over AUS Whirlwind in the 1970s.

Today, Masport Australia is alive: https://masport.com.au/

Cheers

Gidday Tyler , Norm and Jack,

I've seen about 8 of this Masport Whirlwind Tecumseh 2 stroke ,around the early eighties ,yes it was definitely sold here.

Here is a pic from an eighty four magazine I have.

Cheers
Max.

Hi fellows,
Ahh yes the hammerhead shark engine. Now so regretting leaving a Massy from this era on the kerb with catcher and heavily disguised vertical pull Briggs with a fancy dress cowl and interesting throttle dial on the front. Masport are essentially a kiwi Rover, well made but with those deuced wheel clips to hold them on that make them a pig to replace.

I was fooled into thinking Masport was Australian at first, their brand was so prominent here. I have seen a couple of videos of 2 stroke Massys and essentially another case of thinking it's a Victa if you shut your eyes!
Why they insist on those bar blades on an otherwise quality machine is beyond me. They must market to people who have lawns free of objects (good luck).

PS I am annoyed they took over Morrison. I view that as anti competitive conduct. Similar story with Rover acquiring Scott Bonnar and Victa with Pace.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
